The document is a student's reflection on their communication skills. It describes how the student struggled with shyness and introversion as a child, finding social interactions draining. In high school, the student started to improve their speaking skills with friends, though was still clumsy. An English teacher's advice helped the student view their shyness as an opportunity to develop skills over time. The student acknowledges they still need to improve their writing grammar but hopes the current COLA11 course will help maximize their communication abilities.

Communicating— whether verbal, nonverbal or written has been a challenge
for me since I was young. I grew up as an extremely shy child and refused to speak or respond to other people whenever they tried talking to me. Although I had an encouraging environment, I just didn’t like mingling with others, especially when they’re too loud for my liking. My social battery gets easily drained. That was when I discovered that I am an introvert, I began to understand why I was like this. I thought that there was something wrong with me because unlike the children my age, I was not as confident and sociable like them. When I entered high school, I noticed that I am slowly but progressively improving when it comes to speaking to other people like my friends. I was still clumsy because I didn’t know how to socialize at all. However, I learned various social skills as well as important social cues that enabled me to use my skills to get what I want. A line that my English teacher said back then helped me to be more confident in communicating with others, “There is always room for improvement. Don’t let your shyness become your weakness, use it as an opportunity to constantly develop.” This was simple yet very useful since I always get nervous when I have to report in front of my classmates as I had stage fright. As for my writing skills, I have yet to improve because my grammar sometimes comes off wrong. Honestly, I do not base it on grammatical rules but on how good it sounds when I read it. Thankfully, there are still classes that help students with stage fright, extreme shyness and are introverted to express themselves in a manner that adheres to their preferences. I hope that this course, COLA11, will guide students to maximize their communication skills to its full potential. Screenshot of Communication Skills Test Result
