Dental waxes: are mixture of natural and synthetic waxes gum, fat, oil,
natural and synthetic resins and coloring agents.

Chemically waxes are polymers consisting of hydrocarbon and their

derivatives like ester and alcohol.

A- Pattern: 1- Modeling wax 2- Inlay wax 3- Casting wax.

B- Processing: 1- Boxing wax 2- Sticky wax 3- Utility wax.
C- Impression: 1- Corrective wax 2- Bite registration wax.

Modeling wax: (base plate wax)

Uses:

1. Making wax pattern of complete and partial

denture.
2. Making wax pattern of orthodontic
appliance.
3. Making occlusal rim for recording maxillary mandibular jaw relation.
Inlay wax:

➢ Type of pattern wax.

➢ Various color (blue, green, purple).
➢ Available in sticks, cakes, blocks
form.

Uses:

Preparation of the wax pattern for cast metal restoration like Inlay,
Only, Crown, Bridge.

Casting wax:

➢ Type of pattern wax.

➢ Various color (blue, green, purple).

➢ Available in sheet form, usually of (28-30) gauge.

➢ (0.40) &(0.32)mm thickness ready-made shape and in bulk.

Boxing wax :

Uses:
To form plaster or stone cast base from an impression of edentulous arch.
Sticky Wax:

➢ Various color (bright, yellow, orange
sticks)
➢ Adhesive and brittle at room temperature

Uses:
To assembles metallic or resin pieces in a fixed
temporary restoration during soldering or repairing
procedure.

Utility wax:

➢ Various color (dark, red, orange)
➢ Available in thin sheet, & sticks form.

Uses:
Standardize perforated tray for uses with
hydrocolloid may easily be prop to a more
desirable contour by utility wax this is down to
prevent sag or distortion of impression
materials.
 Corrective wax:

➢ Pink, white and red color
➢ Available in sticks and cake form
Uses:
Uses as a wax veneer over an original
impression to register the details of soft
tissue .

Bite registration wax:

➢ Type of impression wax
➢ Available in U shape rods
➢ Various color (dark, red, pink)
Uses:
To register the relation ship between upper and lower teeth.
