The pie chart below evaluates the percentages of online sales in Canada's different
retail sectors between 2005 and 2010.
Overall, between 2005 and 2010, the proportion of internet sales for each industry
changed dramatically. Food and beverage sales, as well as video game sales, increased
online, while sales of electronics, appliances, and home furnishings products dramatically
decreased.
Online sales of food and beverages attributed for 32% of total sales in 2010, down
from 10% in 2005. Similarly, video games followed a similar pattern, with the proportion
increasing by 5% in 2010 compared to past years.
Furthermore, the electronics and appliance industry account for a large proportion
of online sales, which were 35% in 2005 but had declined to nearly a third by 2010. The
most significant drop took place in the retail sector of home furnishings. In 2005, the
industry is responsible for one-quarter of all online sales in Canada. However, by 2010,
the number decreased significantly to 15%.
