The Malaysian Academy of Pharmacy (MAP) in collaboration with the Malaysian Pharmaceutical
Society (MPS) and the Pharmaceutical Services Programme of the MInistry of Health will be
organising a Community Pharmacist Training Program based on the model established by the
Ministry of Health Diabetes Medication Therapy Adherence Clinic (DMTAC).
The training programme is aimed at supporting and improving health service delivery within all
pharmacy practice settings, particularly in the community pharmacy sector, by enhancing
pharmacists’ health literacy and building their capacity to improve health outcomes for people living
with diabetes. In addition, this training will enable pharmacists to deliver consistent, relevant and
actionable support, and have a supportive and helpful consultation with people living with diabetes
mellitus.
The training program is divided into 5 parts – Online Module, Lectures, Case-Based Discussion,
Clinical Attachment and Assessment. Participants will be attached at selected hospitals throughout
the country.
The Certificate of Completion will be awarded to those who have completed all five parts, where a
pass in the Assessment is mandatory. No certificate will be given for completing just one part of the
program, except Part 1 (Online Module).
The first part of the training involves self-learning by the participant using the online module, published
in the MAP website. This module (Part 1) will cover the pathophysiological basis of diabetes mellitus
with the latest update on pharmacotherapy. This must be completed before moving on to the next
part.
Part 2 is an online workshop focusing on interactive lectures. Part 3 covers interactive discussion and
presentation of simulation cases by the experts using virtual platforms. Both Part 2 and 3 will be
conducted over two consecutive half days.
Part 4 of the training consists of attachment at a Ministry of Health’s Health Clinic in teams of 2
pharmacists. The venue and dates of attachment will be arranged with the participants during the
