CASE
Expanding the Limits of Innovation
The word ligos means “to bind”. The family of LIGOS™ Latex Binders offers
the strong and reliable performance of Trinseo’s technologies — and an
equally strong commitment to our customers and the industry.
We design latex binders that can be used as the main binder or co-binder in
your adhesive formulations. However, they can also serve as a standalone
solution, by adapting the rheology and the wettability for your specific
application equipment process.
Product Range
Pressure Sensitive
Our latex binders, even formulated, offer high shear performances with a very
→ Styrene Butadiene (SB) Latex
good compromise between peel and tack. High heat resistance laminates with
→ Styrene Acrylic (SA) Latex
very low VOC performances are possible. Self-adhesion properties allow for
→ Vinyl Acrylic (VA) Latex permanent or removable performances for a wide range of substrates. Custom
→ Pure Acrylic Latex formulations of Trinseo SB latexes also support laminate constructions with
→ Vinylidene Chloride (VDC) Latex paper and filmic face materials.
→ Bio-hybrid Latex
Customers can combine Trinseo’s low-VOC, EH&S-compliant latex binders with
natural latex to improve performance, quality, and cost stability through a
diversified raw material base and with a different range of tackifiers.

Sealants
Designed for use with various substrates, our Styrene Acrylic and pure Acrylic latex
binders ensure excellent adhesion, flexibility, durability, and resistance to water,
heat, and light aging. As demands for improved energy conservation, heating/air
conditioning efficiencies, and low-VOCs continue to grow, Trinseo’s latex products
and technology, along with customer innovations, have met strict performance
requirements for caulks and duct sealants.
Certain SB, SA, and VDC-based polymers deliver excellent adhesion performance
to various metal substrates used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC)
ductwork, as well as adhesion to other materials used in installation. This first-rate
adhesion combined with controlled water vapor transmission rate (WVTR), top
formulation stability, and long-term sealant durability makes Trinseo’s products the
preferred choice for sealant manufacturers.
Packaging
Trinseo’s latex binders bring outstanding adhesion, consistent quality, and operational
efficiency to a broad range of rigid and flexible packaging, including food and cosmetics
applications. Our solutions are based on SB, SA, and VA chemistries to address the
growing trend for sustainable packaging without sacrificing performance.
If used as the main binder in your formulation you will be able to achieve high-
performance products. If used as a co-binder you can improve the overall formula
performance. Trinseo products offer good compatibility with other types of chemistry
and can help to improve the performances of standard formulas when only slight
improvements are required.
