Please note the following important terms and conditions:

Tuition is given in courses of ten weekly lessons. A course may, in some cases, begin later than the commencement of
the school calendar term, since some terms are sufficiently long to accommodate more than ten lessons. Pupils are able
to start music lessons at any time during the academic year and, in the event of lessons commencing mid-way through a
term, the proportion of lessons completed within the term will be charged for.

The fee for the academic year 2022-223 is £225 for 10 individual lessons of 30 minutes’ duration. Shared lessons in
groups of two are available in singing, depending on demand. Longer individual lessons, particularly for advanced
students, are available if space and timetabling restrictions allow. Fees for longer lessons and shared lessons are
charged on a pro-rata basis. Notification is given in advance of any further fee increase.

Tuition is provided by visiting self-employed teachers. The term’s fees are payable upon invoice directly to the
instrumental / singing teacher, not to the school. Fees must be paid within 7 days of receipt of invoice and teachers
may choose to invoice 14 days in advance of each term. If fees are not paid within this timescale then lessons will
be suspended until payment is received.

Lessons operate on a restricted rota system and it is essential that pupils regularly check the instrumental timetable
notice board for details of their lesson times. Every effort will be made to avoid academic lessons in L5 (Year 10) and
above. Pupils are required to catch up any work missed from curriculum lessons.

Attendance at lessons and regular practice are expected and participation in appropriate extra-curricular music activities
is strongly encouraged. Lessons that are missed through absence or forgetfulness on the pupil’s part are not made up. If
a lesson is cancelled by the teacher, or if a school trip/activity clashes with the lesson (and at least one week's notice is
given by the pupil or parent), the teacher will arrange another time for that lesson. If this is not convenient for the
teacher, then the appropriate fee will be refunded.

Notice of five lessons is required in writing to the peripatetic teacher with a copy to the Director of Music to
discontinue lessons, or effect a change of teacher. Instrumental and singing tuition is a separate activity to extra-
curricular clubs and music tuition continues term by term until written notice of withdrawal is received. Notice of five
lessons must be given, as a timetabled slot is arranged for each pupil in advance. Withdrawal without notice results in
the loss of income for the teacher. A fee of £112.50 is payable to the peripatetic teacher if this condition is not met.

Peripatetic teachers may be contacted directly by email. Parents should not contact peripatetic teachers by telephone or
mobile, but teachers can be contacted through the Director of Music, who will pass on messages.

Tuition may lead to pupils taking graded music examinations which are held each term, usually at the Senior School.
Entering a pupil for an examination is at the discretion of the individual instrumental or singing teacher. A written
report on the pupil’s progress, attendance and commitment will be issued during the year.
