Title:

RC Circuit Transient Response

Date:
24/02/2023

Aim:
The aim of the experiment was to understand the concept of phase shifting, by measuring the phase
shift from an oscilloscope

Apparatus:
- bread board

- red/black crocs

- 10k resistor

- (223) capacitor

- oscilloscope

- voltage source

Procedure:
The breadboard was set up as in the circuit diagram, resistor and capacitor connected with the crocs.
Once everything was checked to see if it ok, the sine waves that appeared on the oscilloscope was
adjusted to the centre of the graph. The required frequency was adjusted. The voltage was also
adjusted to an RMS value of 1.0V. Once everything was adjusted properly, a screenshot was taken
and the process was repeated with the other frequencies.

Calculations:
The calculations were as follows:

For the phase sift = Diff x 360 / Wavelength.

Errors:
In the experiment there was some minor errors that was encountered such as managing to use the
oscilloscope to show the two sine waves, and finding the capacitor.(The required capacitor for this
experiment couldn’t be found, therefore all students were required to use a 223 capacitor)

Conclusion:
-The experiment was conducted satisfactorily and all the results were acquired.

-in theory, the formula for the phase shift is
