Religious Institutions
Religion is the belief in the worship of superhuman power embodied in a personal God or
Goddesses responsible for the creation and preservation of the universe.

Function of Religion
 Provides members with a sense of identity
 Establishes certain codes of conduct which bring about cohesion and cooperation
 Relieves fear, anxiety and frustration
 Provides answers and gives reasons for man’s existence
 Provides direction and focus for life’s journey.

Economic Institutions

Th development of money as the medium of exchange has led to the formation of a number of
financial institutions such as banks, credit unions, cooperatives and insurance companies.

Functions of Commercial Banks


 Accept money on deposit
 To generate interest for money left on deposit
 To pay bills on behalf of clients
 To accepts jewelry and other valuables for safe keeping
 To create employment
 To offer financial advice to their customers.
