Commissioner Diaz,

I am writing in response to your April 25, 2023, letter regarding files that were recently submitted to
the Department of Education. I appreciate you bringing this issue to my attention so that I can ensure
any potential deficiencies in our reporting system are addressed. Like you, I take student safety very
seriously, and work diligently each day to keep all DCPS students safe. I can assure you that I did not
intentionally fail to report any required information.

My staff and I are working diligently to identify and remedy any weaknesses in our system, and to
better understand what has occurred with the files you referenced in your letter. We are working with
our legal counsel and have already begun an investigation into these issues and will have more
information to share very soon.
