A BRIEF HISTORY OF PASMETH

• The Philippine Association of Schools of Medical


Technology and Public Health (PASMETH) is the
national organization of all recognized schools
offering degrees in BS Medical Laboratory Science
(Medical Technology) and BS Public Health in the
Philippines. It was formed in in 1970 in the hopes of
maintaining the foster closer relations among these
schools.

• On May 13, 1970, barely a year after the passage


of the law that professionalized the practice of
medical technology in the country, Director
Narciso Albarracin of the Department of Education
appointed Dr. Serafin Juliano from the Far Eastern
University and Dr. Gustavo Reyes from the
University of Santo Tomas to organize an
Association was held at the University of Santo
Tomas on June 22, 1970 with an initial membership
of six schools of medical technology based in
Manila. A year later, the Association had its first
annual meeting on May 07, 1971 also held at the
University of Santo Tomas.
