Highlight Interpretation
Kuning: Noun
Hijau : Verb
Biru : Adjective
Ungu : Preposition
A. Translate the following expressions correctly.
1. Some off-shore drilling along Pangandaran beach.
 Analysis: offshore (what is the meaning of offshore? In Cambridge it was “away
from or at a distance from the land” but in Oil Industry context it was
“Pertambangan minyak bawah laut”) is a noun (but it can be a preposition tho/?
since it indicates the location in which it was ‘far from the shore’, yet somehow it
can also be a noun since it indicates ‘pertambangan minyak bawah laut yang ada
di lepas pantai’), drilling along (but here we’re given the word ‘drilling’ which in
Indonesia means ‘mengebor’) is a verb, and Pangandaran beach is a noun.
 Semantic Representation: The offshore that mentioned in the source language text
might be the one that point to pertambangan minyak bawah laut for it was
followed with drilling or mengebor in Indonesia, which the semantic
interpretation then make much more sense.
 Synthesis: Some (Beberapa) offshore (pertambangan minyak bawah laut yang ada
di lepas pantai) drilling along (sedang mengebor di sepanjang) Pangandaran
beach (Pantai Pangandaran).
 Answer: Beberapa pertambangan minyak bawah laut yang ada di lepas pantai
sedang mengebor di sepanjang Pantai Pangandaran.
