Should PE be compulsory in every high school

(YES)
People have currently understood what are the real priorities of their lives. They know more
than ever before that health is definitely one of them. The latest studies have shown that it
isn’t necessary to run marathons in order to keep ourselves fit. Exercising 2/3 times a week
is relatively enough to stay fit and healthy. Students are often busy with schoolwork and
don’t have the time to exercise. This fact makes them inactive in sports, which is harmful in
many ways. That’s why the government should take steps and make PE mandatory in high
schools.

Health aspect

Exercise is the key to being healthy. The fact that students are still in the process of
developing we need to provide beneficial activities for their health and body. Exercise not
only improves overall body condition but also allows us to have a better quality of life, and
be more effective which means studying more and mainly improves our health. Our body
would be prepared for any type of physical activity, our stamina would improve immediately
and our body would be protected from basic injuries which occur in everyday life. However,
even more, dangerous than basic injuries is stress. Academic stress has been linked to a
variety of negative effects, including ill health, anxiety, depression, and poor academic
results. The more serious effects are high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and
diabetes. These harmful effects have also been proven by Harvard Health Publishing. These
are one of the most serious problems that often ruin one’s life so, if we don’t treat them
immediately, they could ruin the lives of young students. However, if high school students
would exercise at least 120 minutes/3 lessons every week, it would reduce their stress
hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol, and all of those health issues would be gone and
replaced with positive ones.

Higher attendance = better quality of lessons

Additionally exercising not only supports our health but also brings new opportunities for
students to exercise. The fact that PE is not compulsory leads to a low number of students
that attend these lessons. However, this problem can be solved. If PE would be mandatory
those who did not attend these lessons would be forced to exercise. This would reflect in
the attendance, which would provide us with a bigger group of students. This would open
up new possibilities to play sports that require more players to be anticipated. Objectively it
is much easier to work with more students because it would be easier to conduct
miscellaneous activities. Furthermore, students would have bigger possibilities to try out
new sports, and maybe even start doing sports actively because it would be fun. We would
not only accomplish our plans to make students exercise but we would also save their free
time.
Teamwork aspect

Moreover, the next thing you could gain from PE besides being healthy and having new
opportunities to exercise is the skill to work in a team. As we all know teamwork is one of
those skills that are a must. I know that in high school it is not a priority because mostly you
work alone. However, in universities or even in our upcoming life this skill is something that
would be of great benefit to have but a great disadvantage not to master. But how is even
PE connected to the development of teamwork?  So, the whole idea of PE is to exercise,
more specifically to play sports. Most of them are team sports so the skill would be
developed in a fun way. The fact that it would be fun, would speed up the improvement of
the skill. Moreover, it would raise the team spirit of the whole class, leading to getting to
know each other better. These things that PE teaches them are very important, they lead to
better cooperation between students and mainly the improvement of teamwork. So, the
impact of compulsory PE would teach students how to work in a team, raise the team spirit
of the class, and finally it would improve relationships between students. That is a very good
reason for Pe to be compulsory.

The question of whether PE should or shouldn’t be compulsory hasn’t been answered yet. I
had given you arguments which prove that compulsory PE would improve their skill to work
in a team. Affect their health plus prevent them before diseases, obesity, diabetes and also
how would their attendance motivate other students to join them and maybe even start
being active in sports. Concludingly the impact of adding PE vs. not adding it has definitely
won the scenario to add it so, that is why PE should be compulsory in every high school.
