Micro – Project Proposal
“Develop Switchboard having Two 5A five pin sockets, three 5A single pole
switch and one fan regulator (Fuse and Indicator Compulsory)”

1. Rational:

An electric switchboard is an electrical device that distributes electricity

from one electrical source to another electrical source. It is a major
component used in power distribution process. It is made up of several
electric panels. Each electric panel contains switches that redirect electricity.
An electrical switchboard is a single large panel or can be a combination of
electrical panels on which switches and other power control equipment are
mounted. The main purpose of the board is to control the flow of power. It
divides the main current supplied to it into several smaller chunks and
distributes it to the devices. In precise, switchboards supply power to
transformers, panels, and other equipment and from there power further gets
distributed.

2. Literature Review:

1. Before preparing A report on switchboard we have to know the basic

concept of switchboard.
2. We have to know the switchboard working also how it directs electricity
from supply .
3. We have to know the construction and layout circuit of switchboard.
4. We also know the different uses of switchboard
5. We must know the function and uses of components which we use it in
the switchboard.
6. Proposed Methodology:

1) The topic of micro project assigned to us.

2) We will distribute the work of microproject among the all group
members.
3) First, we will understand the construction of switchboard
4) We will search detail information of switchboard
5) We will verify that information from our teachers.
6) We will prepare a report on switchboard using the available
information.
7) At last, we will give a presentation of that report to teacher and
submitted in electrical engineering laboratory

2. Aim of the Micro Project:

1. To understand the need and use of switchboard
2. To learn diagram, layout, wiring, construction of switchboard.
3. To study working of switchboard.
4. To study importance of switchboard.
5. To calculate the cost of project.
3. Course Outcome Integrated:

Maintain and optimized working of switchboard.

4. Literature Review:

1. Before preparing A report on switchboard we have to know the basic

concept of switchboard.
2. We have to know the switchboard working also how it directs electricity

4. We also know the different uses of switchboard
5. We must know the function and uses of components which we use it in
the switchboard.

5. Working of Switchboard

Electrical power systems work as power is sent from the utility provider
which then in line moves through an electric switchboard. That switchboards
then relays the electricity throughout a number of circuits. The power is then
moved to feeders and then distributed to locations throughout the reach of the
power grid.

An electric switchboard is an electrical device that distributes electricity from

one electrical source to another electrical source. It is a major component used
in power distribution process. It is made up of several electric panels. Each
electric panel contains switches that redirect electricity. An electrical
switchboard is a single large panel or can be a combination of electrical panels
on which switches and other power control equipment are mounted. The main
purpose of the board is to control the flow of power. It divides the main current
supplied to it into several smaller chunks and distributes it to the devices. In
precise, switchboards supply power to transformers, panels, and other
equipment and from there power further gets distributed.
An electrical switchboard gets power supply from a power generator or any
other major power source. The operator working on controlling a board must be
protected from electrocution. This is provided by fuses and switches mounted
on the board. The amount of power received by switchboards must be equal to
the amount of power distributed by them. There are controls which monitor this
power distribution process. There are several load sharing controls, plus gauges
mounted on the board to control power supply.

Advantages of Switchboard

• Increases Capacity –
They increment the accessible data transfer capacity of the organization

• Reduces Burden –
They help in lessening the outstanding burden on individual host PCs.

• Increment Presentation –
They increment the presentation of the organization
.
• Less casing Impacts –
Networks that use switches will have fewer casing impacts. This is because
of the way that switches make impact areas for every association.

• Straightforward –
Switches can be associated straightforwardly with workstations.

• Increases Bandwidth –
It increases the available bandwidth of the network.

• Less frame collisions –

Networks that use switches will have fewer frame collisions

• More secure –
Since the switch is isolated, data will go only to the destination.
Disadvantages of Switches

1) Costly
2) Tough Availability issues
3) Issues in traffic broadcasting
4) Defenseless
5) Need for Proper Planning
6) Mechanical Component can wear out
7) Physical contact mandatory

7. Application

1. We learned switch board concept clearly.

2. We learned examples of switch board.
3. Developed abilities to work with her/their peers.
4. We studied applications, advantages, disadvantages of switchboard also

8. Actual Procedure Followed

A distribution switchboard is the point at which an incoming-power supply

divides into separate circuits, each of which is controlled and protected by the
fuses or switchgear of the switchboard. ... Consequently, the type of distribution
switchboard must be perfectly adapted to its application. Electrical power
systems work as power is sent from the utility provider which then in line
moves through an electric switchboard. That switchboards then relays the
electricity throughout a number of circuits. The power is then moved to feeders
and then distributed to locations throughout the reach of the power grid.

10. Output of Micro Project

1. Switches provide real – time electrical feedback on machine component

positions. Timers don’t.
2. Switch output signals simplify machine set-up
3. Fuse Indicator will help us to identify fault quickly.
4. We can’t completely avoid this fuse element because it protects the
circuit element from high current draw and voltage surges.

11. Skill Developed/Learning outcomes of the Micro Project

1) We learned about construction of switchboard

2) We learned advantages and disadvantages of switchboard
3) We get knowledge about working of switchboard
4) Skill of collecting appropriate data from internet was developed

12. Area of Future development

1. Lower fire risk, as newer switchboards have inbuilt safety switches.

Lower shock risk, as newer switchboards have inbuilt safety switches.
Lower risk of your circuit breaker constantly tripping.

2. Reliability is the key to a successful switchboard, requiring accurate,

thorough design and an expert eye to ensure compliance with the latest
switchboard standards.
3. A recent report predicts that smart connectivity of devices and objects
indoors will develop markedly over the coming years.
4. Your switchboard upgrade will involve the replacement of all ceramic
fuses for modern, safe circuit breakers and RCDs. This occurs in a neat
enclosure along with the rewiring/tidying of the cables behind your panel;
before finishing with the testing the entire installation and residence.
5. Remote controlled switchboard with several valuable features have
become so popular and well appreciated. They not only boast of an easy
to use technology complete with smart connectivity solution,
