Assessment:

This is done as a group and then to individuals. We also use these for seating tests. Assessments like these are used to check for
errors and used as models to other students on what not to do or what they should be looking out for when they play.

Formative and Diagnostic Assessments are used in quick succession to gather data about the effectiveness of my teaching and
quality of student engagement. The data from these assessments during rehearsals can influence the direction of my teaching
cycles and/or the direction of my rehearsals overall.

Lesson Reflections:

This week’s lessons were going very well until Friday. During the class time on Friday, of which I was teaching by myself, during
the review of the Eb Scale on Friday (which also serves as a formative assessment during our lessons) there was a huge
difference in playing ability and understanding of the concept during this scale. On Wednesday when we have more time with the
students, this part of the lesson seemed to be fine as we progressed throughout the day, but the review was not as substantial as
usual so that we could save time for other things. Because of this, I could tell that when we reviewed the scale on Friday it wasn’t
enough for them to show progress that day. Friday’s class time was largely spent on reviewing this scale and giving individual
and group time to those that were struggling. By doing so, it took time away from reviewing the music for the final concert which
was more the important part of the lesson that day.
