The ability to use language distinguishes us from all animals. Animals communicate but they
don’t produce a language. Language allows us to make utterances in a way that others can
understand. A language consists of grammar, vocabulary, and sound systems. Our first language,
also known as our mother tongue, is acquired from birth and the environment we exist. On the
other hand, second language is learned in school and requires extra effort to learn and familiarize
yourself with the concepts of the language.
