Hello everyone, I am P02 Kyriazis and today I will be teaching you how to
complete a marling hitch.
What is a hitch? A knot used for fastening a rope to another rope or
something else.
Importance (Why)
Knowledge of the marling hitch will be beneficial in future training and is
required for more advanced seamanship skills

5 The marling hitch is used for lashing or holding together long bundles such Short discussion

Lesson Content
25 Use the following steps Demonstration and
minutes 1. Wrap the working end around the object to be bundled with a half performance
hitch.
2. Move the working end along the length of the bundle and make
another half hitch
3. Repeat this process until the bundle is lashed as far along as
required.
The cadets will attempt the Marling hitch on a wooden spar, using the
diagrams provided by myself and I will help them as needed.

The marling hitch can be used in a variety of cadet training activities;
therefore, it is important that the cadets
become proficient with it.
