ETHICS
GENED 006
Activity No. 1

1. Is this an ethical issue?

To understand what an ethical issue means is to know what ethics means. Ethics
is concerned with human conduct, more specifically the behavior of individuals in
society. And on the issue imposed, death penalty is an ethical issue as it talks
about the moral decision on the takings of someone’s life, the ethical decisions of
who to lives and who to dies to achieve the greatest balance of good over evil for
everyone involved. There were some in favor argue that the punishment must fit
the crime, and that the taking of the life deserves the loss of one's life. Those
opposed argue that we cannot be the arbiters of who lives and who dies.

2. Does the question of the rightness of wrongness of this issue help Filipino
citizens? Explain your answer.

Talking about the rightness and wrongness of action, it does help. The death
penalty allows Filipinos to foresee their fate if they commit a crime that violates
both the law of the people and the law of God. The implementation of the death
penalty does assist Filipino individuals discern between the right and wrongness
of their actions, but we are not entitled and were never be entitled of taking
someone’s life and decide who lives and who dies.

3. What are the ethical and moral issues of Filipinos?

The ethical and moral issues of Filipinos were discrimination, same sex marriage,
abortion, divorce, race and ethnicity, death penalty and other related issues.

4. How can you give solution about death penalty, proposed by Duterte’s
administration?

The country's rapid increase in crime forced the government to reinstate the
pending death penalty. So far, no more effective approach to reducing the
aforementioned crimes has been found, and if we talk about a remedy, it cannot
be considered the most effective option. In order to successfully reduce crime, I
would consider the following factors in effectively reducing crime.

First is the historical research. Did the previous implementation of the said death
penalty have an effective action to reduce the country's criminality? Has the
implementation of this led to progress of lessening crimes and achieving a peaceful
society? This would allow me to have numerous metrics to judge whether or not I
should agree with it. Or am I able to give another countermeasure to the
administration?

Second, I will weigh the Filipino people's perceptions on the matter by doing
research on it. The Philippines is a democratic country, and everyone has the right
to listen and be heard. Although doing said study appears unachievable, it would
help to know, and it also aids in weighing the decisions of the majority. We may
showcase their support to its implementation by listening to people's opinions and
allowing them to vote on it.

Third. I would try to incorporate everything and reconsider the degree of its
rightness and goodness from an ethical standpoint. What are the chances of
serving the right justice to the people and what are the chances of it not
determining actual justice?
