Document Development Exposi on: Instruc ons

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to nish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
When the document was in its planning stage, I ini ally felt stuck and did not have any idea of what to
do. I thought back to my Reak on book sun owers and tried to think of a way that I could somehow
relate the two. Then I got the idea of crea ng an instruc onal guide that helps dissa s ed customers
with their oral arrangements. The next biggest obstacle that I had to overcome was guring out
exactly how to do it since it had been done so many mes before. The way I was able to get through
this doing a bunch of online research and pulling li le elements from each site to make it as unique
and informa ve as possible.

First Dra (for peer edi ng)

I tried to create this document with the nal dra as close in mind, there were a couple elements
that I didn’t take as seriously such as the font and format because I gured I would get peer responses
back on that aspect. In this stage of the development process the biggest di culty that I had was
ge ng the informa on down into steps that didn’t seem excessive or redundant and nding the best
way to balance plain language without make the user feel as like the tone was condescending.

Second Dra (for your packet)

The challenges I had in developing my second dra was crea ng a document that incorporated many
or all of the peer edit sugges ons. I had to trim o of a lot of the content that I had in the packets
because it was too lengthy and not concise. I also had to edit the steps for the vocabulary that I used,
given that my document was meant to reach a large audience of people it wasn’t as general or plainly
wrote as it should’ve been. The last major challenge that I had to overcome was trying to format the
document in a more professional manner, even though I hadn’t received direct feedback that had told
me that images weren’t appropriate I s ll felt that I hadn’t u lized the white space of the document in
the most e ec ve manner. I overcame all of these challenges by condensing the informa on,
simplifying the language, and adjus ng my documents visual forma ng. All to be er suit the the
professional nature of the assignment.

Final Dra (for your por olio)

Document Development Exposi on: Instruc ons

What I learned from this assignment is quality over quan ty. Less is more. When I began developing
this document had the inten ons of making it this in-depth beau ful instruc onal guide, however,
through the feedback I have received and the mul ple edits its clear to me that a document that is
extensive and pre y does not always properly ful ll what it was created to do. Instruc ons o en have
to be simple and concise so that a majority of people will use them and not give up because the
informa on feels overwhelming.
