Dr. Ibrahim Galal Hassan

Professor at Texas A&M University at Qatar
Research Assistant
Education City, Al Rayyan, Qatar

Dear Dr. Hassan:

I was reached out to by one of your current research assistants, Nahin (a rising sophomore), on May 2,
2023. Nahin asked whether I would be interested in working with you as a research assistant, and I would
like to be interviewed for this position. I have done research and found that you have published many
papers which dealt with topics of thermodynamics, fluids, and heat transfer. I believe that I am fit for this
position because I have experience in thermodynamics as I already have knowledge on this topic as a
mechanical engineering undergraduate. In addition to that, I believe that through my communication
skills and my peer-tutoring experience, I can help assist Nahin (who has no experience with the
background of the research topic) and bridge the knowledge gap between us to effectively begin the
research process, in a shorter period.

I especially found your paper on the cooling of thermoelectric devices interesting – primarily focusing on
the importance of making improvements to material properties. This is relevant because as I have recently
taken MEEN 315 and MEEN 223, courses teaching thermodynamics and materials respectively, I believe
that I can apply the knowledge and skills that I have taken from these courses to help you in making well-
written and expert research papers. In addition to that, I have seen that many of your research papers were
co-written by Marwa Abdelgawad, who taught me MEEN 223 about materials selection, and I believe
that our familiarity would make for a great learning environment.

Nahin has also informed me that the research will be done using the software COMSOL. Though I have
no experience with this specific software, I believe I can quickly get accustomed to the use of this
software as I have done for other courses. Using SOLIDWORKS, I made a product with my group
members, and we prototyped it all within a short period of time, even though we had no previous
experience with using this program. I believe that my technical skills in software, such as LabVIEW and
SOLIDWORKS, may come in handy.

I hope you consider me a suitable candidate for this position, and I am ecstatic to work under you, given
you extensive experience. I would be more than pleased to meet with you to discuss this further. Please
email me at mohamad.mahmoud@qatar.tamu.edu for any questions or missing information. I look
forward to hearing from you and thank you for reading my letter and resume.
Sincerely,
Mohamad Mahmoud
