Historical Background of the business/ nature of the business
The Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Association of the Philippines (PHAP) is a non-profit and non-stock
organization established in July 1946 and is composed of 42 national and global companies. PHAP works
with patients, government, medical professionals and non-government organizations to improve the
health situation of Filipinos so they can be healthier and more productive. In 2003, PHAP established the
PHAPCares Foundation to serve as its corporate social responsibility arm. The PHAPCares Foundation
undertakes initiatives to improve the health and well-being of the sick, disadvantaged and victims of
disasters. PHAP is a member of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Industry Associations
(IFPMA) and the Global Self-Care Federation (GSCF), both categorized as non-State actors with official
relations with the World Health Organization (WHO). PHAP is also a signatory of the Consensus
Framework for Ethical Collaboration and a member of the Coalition for Safe Medicines to fight
counterfeit medicines. It is likewise a member of the National Privacy Commission Council.

Services of the company


The PHAPCares Foundation is mandated to serve as the social responsibility arm of PHAP to help
improve the health and lives of Filipinos disadvantaged by sickness, poverty and disasters. The company
also assist in the amelioration of the living conditions of those affected by calamities by making and
donating medicines identified by the appropriate governmental agencies. They also support, manage
and operate programs or projects for the promotion of public health care.

Target clientele
The target client of the company are those individuals particularly who are in needs in terms of their
health and well-being.

PHAP has a pledge to uphold the Guiding Principles of the Code of Practice such as integrity,
transparency, independence, accountability, and patient focus to ensure that all our interactions with
public and private sectors, healthcare professionals, medical institutions and patient organizations are at
all times ethical, appropriate and professional.

The Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Association of the Philippines (PHAP) represents the research-based
pharmaceutical sector in the country. Its member companies are the trusted providers of quality and
life-saving medicines in the Philippines today. It also established the Integrity and Proficiency Program
for the Pharmaceutical Sector (IPPS) which is a training and development program in line with PHAP’s
continuing commitment to support the Government and private sector’s integrity and good governance
drive.
