INTRODUCTION TO SOCIAL MEDIA PROS AND CONS.

Social media is a website and app that lets users engage in social networking as
well as produce and share content.

BACKGROUND OF SOCIAL MEDIA.

The National Science Foundation launched the NSFNET in 1987, a more robust,
nationwide digital network that served as the direct forerunner to today`s
internet. In 1997, ten years later, the first real social networking platform was
released such as, CompuServe, America online, and prodigy. They introduced
users to digital communication through email, bulletin board messaging, and real-
time online chatting. Some example of modern social media outlets are:

 Face book - Founded in 2004 by Harvard University student Mark


Zuckerberg, has around 1.7 billion users as of today.
 Twitter - was established in 2006 as a micro blogging platform by
Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone, and others.
 Instagram - A photo-sharing was launched in 2010 by Sandford
alumnus Kevin Systrom, and Face book acquired it in 2012.
 Tiktok – Founded in2016 by Chinese tech company Bytes Dance
which are created to make and share videos.
