Dear Mad 'am or Sir,

I have had the distinct pleasure of supervising Mrs. Kristina Whitfield, 4th grade teacher at Watson
Elementary, Marion County, West Virginia from August of 2020 through December of 2022 as the
Assistant Principal.

Immediately upon meeting Mrs. Whitfield, I was impressed. She possesses a calm demeanor packed with
professionalism and knowledge. To say that Mrs. Whitfield has excelled in this role is an understatement.
Mrs. Whitfield's classroom is highly organized with clear procedures and routines. Classroom
management, based on mutual respect, is instantly established. Daily, she arrives on time, lesson plans
are always prepared in advance and developed using data to drive instruction. Her classroom is managed
using small group instruction coupled with whole group to maximize student growth. She uses a variety of
research-based activities following state standards to keep the students engaged. One of many strengths
is teaching writing as reflected by high writing scores on the 2021-22 WV General Summative
Assessment. Due to her continued use of manipulatives in math and encouraging students to solve
problems in Science and Social Studies, her students showed overwhelming growth in all areas of the
assessment. She is a valuable resource and role model to our entire staff!

Another strong attribute that Kristina possesses is the ability to de-escalate students in a crisis or trauma
moment. I witnessed, on more than one occasion, her graceful and calm techniques of gently coaching
students to make appropriate decisions while continuing to uphold classroom and school expectations.
She truly is gifted in this area.

I strongly recommend Mrs. Kristina Whitfield for a teaching position. Her strengths include exceptional
planning and preparation, using data to drive rigorous instruction, building strong relationships with her
students and colleagues, and being dedicated to the betterment of the students, staff, and school.

Feel free to contact me to further discuss Mrs. Whitfield’s exceptional skills.

Respectfully,

Mrs. Kristie McDonald, MA. Ed
