ABSTRACT AND INTRODUCTION OF THE STUDY

The core aim of this study is to determine the relationship between Time management and

Academic Performance. It is guaranteed that many students struggle with balancing their time

and work. There are often distractions that cannot be denied such as playing games or watching

our gadgets, rather than prioritizing important tasks. Time management is the division of work

based on its importance and difficulty. Many of us also become organized in personal,

educational, work, and free time, but on the other hand, many are also insecure about using time

management. So many are confused about having, balancing, and appreciating the existence of

said time management in daily life

In this study, the existence of Time management is discussed. According to Jersy Sanchez

(2020), many of us are also "struggling" with time management. This is because even if there are

a lot of tasks, one cannot deny the distraction such as using a gadget, doing unimportant tasks

and so on. This research will respond to what is the importance, impact and outcome of having

time management, the researchers also want to convey the answer to why an individual needs to

have the said title variable. The writers also want to convey to the reader that the Assimilation of

Time Management in the Academic Work of the student of Science Technology Engineering

Mathematics in Olivarez College: Integrated Basic Education Department is an important thing

and should be understood.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Time Management and Academic Performance

When it comes to Time Management and Academic Obligations, secondary and higher education

are vastly different from each other. They are mostly predisposed by the schedules of Academic

and Personal Life. However, when it comes to enrolling in College, there will be more different

time constraints that a student can face, such as different time tables in school hours. Task

aversion and uncertainty that can be a great potential to cramming, procrastination and

adjustments.

According to the research carried out in the domain it was found that there is a relation between

the time management skills of the students and the academic achievement of the students and the

students who can manage the time best have highest academic achievement (Bost, 1984; Britton

& Tesser 1991; Macan et. al., 1990; Bee & Ronaghy, 1990; Smith, 1998; Baltas, 1994; Mpofu, et

al:, 1996; Misra & Mckean, 2000; Bay, Tuğluk & Gençdoğan, 2005; Demirtas & Özer, 2007). It

is asserted that there are some limitations of these researches related to their methods, sampling

groups, analysis techniques applied and the scales used in measuring time (Britton & Tesser,

1991).

Time-management skills are acknowledged to be important but there has been little actual

research on this topic with students. In this study we examined the scores obtained from 293

first-year students of psychology on a British version of an American time-management scale.

The students were divided into three age groups: traditional-entry students - aged less than 21

years (N = 172); borderline mature students - aged 21–25 years (N = 50) and older mature

students - aged more than 25 years (N = 71). Our analyses indicated (i) that women students in
general reported significantly greater time-management skills than did men students, and (ii) that

our older mature students reported significantly better time-management skills than did the other

two groups. Academic performance, however, was only modestly predicted by age and scores on

one component of the time-management scale. ( Trueman, M., Hartley, J, 1996 ).

Time management Independent factors

. The Time Management Behavior Scale consists of 4 relatively independent factors; the most

predictive was Perceived Control of Time. Students who perceived control of their time reported

significantly greater evaluations of their performance, greater work and life satisfaction, less role

ambiguity, less role overload, and fewer job-induced and somatic tensions. Findings are

consistent with theory and advice on time management (e.g., R. S. Schuler; 1979) but also

indicate that the dynamics of time management are more complex than previously believed.

STEM in Olivarez College Integrated Basic Education.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

FIG 1.1 : “ TIME MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATIONAL CONCEPT “

Time Management

Time management is the effort to use the time that is an important resource in order to

achieve the purposes, in an efficient way. The purpose of time management is not to

increase the limited time but to increase the quality of the activities carried out in that

limited time (Erdem & others,1998). Time is considered the most valuable commodity in

our lives, and the development of other sources are dependent on the presence and

availability of time. The key to reaching success in life is to concentrate on effective time

management ( Ghiasvand, A. M., Naderi, M., Tafreshi, M. Z., Ahmadi, F., & Hosseini,

M. 2017)
Time Attitudes

Time attitudes were measured using the Adolescent Time Attitude Scale (Mello &

Worrell, 2007; Worrell, Mello, & Buhl, 2011), which assesses positive and negative

attitudes toward the past, the present, and the future. There are several Likert-type scales

that assess attitudes toward time, although most of these were developed as

operationalizations of future-oriented constructs such as hope (Snyder et al., 1996),

optimism (Scheier & Carver, 1985), and perceived life chances (Jessor, Donovan, &

Costa, 1990). In 1999, Zimbardo and Boyd published the Zimbardo Time Perspective

Inventory (ZTPI), which has become the most frequently used instrument in the

literature. Research interest in time attitudes has been growing over the last four decades

and interest in demographic variables have been around for over a century. Time attitudes

are of particular interest in adolescent populations as a future orientation is typically

associated with positive academic outcomes (Beal & Crockett, 2010; Mello, 2008;

Wilkins, 2010)

Time Traps

Research interest in time attitudes has been growing over the last four decades and

interest in demographic variables has been around for over a century. Time attitudes are

of particular interest in adolescent populations as a future orientation is typically

associated with positive academic outcomes (Beal & Crockett, 2010; Mello, 2008;

Wilkins, 2010). Time traps are one of the most dangerous enemies of time management
in all aspects of life. It is especially important for university students to make good use of

their time. However, there are numerous hurdles that prohibit university students from

making effective use of their time. The instability, irresponsibility, uncertainty of the

purposes, not to determine the priorities, destruction, postponement, thinking about

details are among those traps (Efil, 2000).

Time Planning

Time planning is one of the most important elements of efficient time management. The

best planning of the time means the determination of the purposes and priorities in fact

(Can, 2000). . It was identified in the research that the students are studying by planning

their studies but they cannot realize those plannings and they are worried about what to

do when they cannot realize their plannings (Can, 2000). The students complete more

complex activities and acquire the fundamental knowledge and skills related to the

profession they will have in the future. From this point of view it must be thought that the

need of the students to have academic achievement and take part in the social life is in

proportion to use the time in the best way and have the time management skills

(Garcia-Roz et. al., 2004; Trueman & Hartley, 1996; Erdul, 2005; Demirtaş & Özer,

2007).
Academic Performance

Nonability variables like motivation and study time significantly interact with ability to

influence academic performance. Contrary to popular belief, the amount of time spent

studying or at work had no direct influence on academic performance. ( A. Nonis, I.

Hudson, 2010). The authors also addressed implications and direction for future

research. It is foreseen that academical achievement is related to the intelligence,

capability, essential character, personality, family features, the features of the schools,

studying habits, self-respect, anxiety about exams and time management (Eski, 1980;

Özgüven, 1974; Can, 1992; Güngör, 1989; Öner, 1990; Demir, 1990; Wim &.Henk,

1995; Macan, 1996; Alay, 2000). The time management is also correlational to the

Academic performance as they endure the exam Anxiety, Social Support. Family Support

and Self- Actualization
