A. COURSE PLANNING
1. Definition of Course planning
Course planning is the developing of an educational plan for a specific course of study
comprising several short subject courses and each course with many interrelated units
leading to an award of a diploma or a degree after their successful completion
2. Levels of Course Planning
Course planning is done at different levels. The teacher will plan the course based on the
broad outline given by the syllabus. Each institution plans the course for implementation
regarding at the school level.
3. Purpose
The purposes of course planning are:
- Ensure continuity and progression in learning
- Avoid gaps and repetition in subject matter
- Feinforce previous learning
4. Step in Course Planning
Course plan should contain:
- Specification for the level of learner, includes the information regarding the level of the
student
- Objectives, statements of what the student should be able to do as a result of a course
of study
- Placement in the curriculum, specify at what stage student should begin the course
learning
- Resource material needed for the course, teacher who prepares the course outline will
guide by the content in selecting resource material
- Unit plans, the course can be divided into appropriate units, and each unit specifies its
objectives and teaching-learning activities
- Evaluation methods, evaluation measures to be used to assess the learning of students
and measure the learning outcome by holding written tests, practical examinations,
class examinations, and quizzes
- Bibliography, course plan must provide a list of books for references by teachers and
students. The students can do some reading on their own from the list of books
provided for reference

1. Definition of Syllabus Design
Syllabus design is one aspect of curriculum development, a syllabus is a specification of the
contents of a course an d list what will be taught and tested.
