STRUCTURAL THEORY 1

Learnings from Science and Risk Communication Seminar

First and foremost, at the beginning of the seminar it instantly caught my attention,
by what Ms. Chia Ying Lee, PhD, an associate professor has said, I have notice how
advance our mind is, and how advance the world we live. I’ve learned that really the
tropical cyclone causes so much destruction, specially those with high intensity, and it is
really hard to predict specially that we have climate change, the temperature easily
changes, so that direction as well as the intensity of the typhoon. The model of the
Columbia University is very helpful, because we can easily see the risk of tropical
cyclone in different climates.
Another one that caught my attention is Mr. John Ariel Rojas, a resident
meteorologist, he is also a weather forecaster in ABS-CBN, he tackle about so many
thing about how to become an effective forecaster, like how to communicate properly
with people, communication is really an important part in forecasting because
information is being gain through it.
Another speaker is Mr. Robert Badrina, a weather forecaster in DOST PAGASA,
he discussed about how they work in DOST PAGASA, how does they create or
establish a warning, or advisory to convey message to the people.
Next speaker is Mr. Lemuel Basierto, a social media manager, he discussed about
science communication and risk communication relate, in which they both use two way
process in communicating. He also tackled how different social media platform
specifically tiktok helps to spread useful information to people about science and risk
communication, and how social media connects us, and our environment.
