Mom Too Soon: The Status and Challenges of a
Teenage Mother Student
In the Philippines, teenage pregnancy is
when a woman under 20 gets pregnant. It
usually refers to teens between the ages of
15-19. But it can include girls as young as
10. It's also called teen pregnancy or
adolescent pregnancy.
While searching for a teenager who became
a teenager pregnant , I found Ella Mae
Senica, 16 years of age from Brngy.
Aring,Badoc, Ilocos Norte and a Grade 10
student of Badoc Junior College, Inc.
I asked her permission a couple of times if I
could interview her and luckily, she agreed .
After that, I immediately started the
interview and ask her for some questions.

The first question that I asked on her is
“When did you experience your problem?”.
“I experienced my problem when I found
out that I was pregnant at that time, I don't
know what to do and I don't know what to
say with my parents.”, She answered.
The second question that I asked on her is
“How did you address that difficulties?”.
“It is because of the help and support of my
family and friends. I also overcome this
problem by accepting the fact that I am
already pregnant and will raise a baby
during my teenage years.”, She answered.
And the last question that I asked on her is “
How do you balance studying and being a
mother to your child?”. “Believe in yourself
and still choose to pursue your dream
despite the difficulties and don't be affected
by other people's words. Learn how to love
your baby even though someone is judging
you and raising it with love and grace
without minding someone's opinion.”, She
answered.
With that, Education to most Filipinos, is
often thought of as a way out of poverty or
any difficulty. Similarly, to this young girl,
becoming a mother is not the end.
According to her, life for her has to go on
and their dreams need not end with being a
young mother. Education for her is still a
way out of her present predicament.
