VIETNAM STANDARD

TCVN 1451:1998
BRICKEN READING CLOTH
Solid clay bricks
1. Scope of application
This standard applies to solid bricks produced from clay (with additives) by the plastic method and fired at
a suitable temperature, used for the construction of foundations, walls and other parts of buildings with
plastered or outer cladding. This standard does not apply to solid bricks with a volumetric mass less than
1600 kg/m³.

3. Size, classification, symbol
3.1. The basic dimensions of fired clay solid bricks are specified in Table 1.
Table 1. Dimensions of fired clay solid bricks
Dimensions in mm
Tile style name Tên Long Wide Thick
60 . solid brick 220 105 60
Solid brick 45 190 90 45
Note: It is possible to produce solid bricks with dimensions other than Table 1, but must ensure the
requirements stated in Article 4.
3.2. According to mechanical strength, fired clay solid bricks are classified into the following grades: M50,
M75, M100, M125, M150, 200
3.3. Conventional symbols for solid clay bricks are recorded in the following order:
Name of brick type - brick mark - number of this standard.
For example: 60mm thick brick, mark 200 symbol is:
Solid brick 60- M200 - TCVN 1451: 1998.
4. Technical requirements:
4.1. Shape requirements
4.1.1. Fired clay solid bricks are rectangular in shape with flat faces, on the face of the brick there may be
grooves or ripples. The edge of the brick can be rounded with a radius not greater than 5mm, according
to the cross-section perpendicular to the extrusion direction.
4.1.2. The size deviation of bricks does not exceed the following regulations:
By length: ±6mm.
By width: ±4mm.
By thickness: ± 3mm for solid brick 60.
± 2mmmm for solid brick 45.
4.1.3. Defects in the external shape of bricks do not exceed the requirements in Table 2.
Table 2. Shape defects
Type of disability Permitted levels
1. Curvature on the bottom face, on the side, in mm, not more than 4
2. The number of cracks through the thickness, stretched to the width first
is not more than 20mm, not more than
3. The number of edge and corner chisels from 5mm to 10mm deep, 2
side length from 10mm to 15mm, not more than
4.2. Requirements for mechanical performance
4.2.1. The compressive and flexural strength of bricks according to each grade is not less than the values
given in Table 3.

4.2.2. The water absorption of baked clay solid bricks is not more than 16%.
4.2.3. The number of chipping marks due to lime on the surface of the brick has an average size from
5mm to 10mm, no more than 3 spots.
5. Test method
5.1. Sample
5.1.1. The number of baked clay solid bricks in each batch to be tested is not more than 100,000 pieces,
the quantity less than 100,000 is also considered as a sufficient batch. Each lot must include bricks of the
same type and mark; take not less than 50 tablets as a test sample; Sampling shall be carried out in such
a way that the test sample is representative of the entire lot, including the bricks that are evenly
distributed throughout the lot.
5.1.2. Amount of test samples for the criteria
Number of samples to check the size and appearance criteria according to Article 5.1.1.
The number of test samples to determine the mechanical and physical criteria shall be as follows:
Determination of compressive strength: 5 tablets
Determination of bending strength: 5 tablets 5
Determination of water absorption and volumetric weight: 5 tablets
Determination of peeling caused by lime: 5 tablets
5.1.3. After the first inspection, if it is found that any criterion does not meet the requirements specified in
Article 4.2, then re-inspect that criterion with twice the number of samples specified above, taken from
the same batch of bricks.
5.2. Try it out!
5.2.1. Check size, curvature, cracks, chipping with metal ruler, caliper with accuracy to 1 mm.
The brick size is the average value of three measurements at the sides and center of the face
respectively.
Rounding radius, crack length, edge chipping length and depth, corner chipping are the results of
measurements at those locations.
The curvature of the test piece on the faces is determined by the maximum clearance between the
specimen surface and the edge of the ruler against that face.
5.2.2. Determination of compressive strength according to TCVN 6355-1:1998.
5.2.3. Determination of bending strength according to TCVN 6355-2:1998.
5.2.4. Determination of water absorption according to TCVN 6355-3:1998.
5.2.5. Determine volumetric weight according to TCVN 6355-5:1998.
5.2.6. Determination of lime peeling according to TCVN 6355-7:1998.
6. Labeling, storage, transportation
6.1. At least 80% of bricks in the batch must have the manufacturer's mark.
6.2. Bricks of the same style, with the same mark, are neatly arranged.
6.3. It is not allowed to throw, throw or dump piles when loading and unloading, transporting.
