1. The first instance was when Lisa Benton met Deborah Linton on her first day of office,
where Linton remarked she herself is not an MBA and doesn’t like Harvard MBA
graduates as they end to act to know more than they do. As on the first day this was not
a kind of welcome Lisa was expecting.
2. The group manager who had hired Lisa , barely recognized her on her first day and left
her astonished as she was appreciated by him during her recruitment process , which
made Lisa disappointed

1. Lisa was less effective when she communicated with Scoville, Lisa should be more
open while communicating as she knew the trigger that Scoville had while they were
working together. Choosing the correct way to communicate and actions she could
easily learn more about the job.
2. As Scoville didn’t have much interactions with people of different departments, Lisa
could use this to get help from Scoville, as he always thought to be a misfit and hardly
had any interaction. Lisa could have used this to show how rewarding this could be to
Scoville and would have given him benefits. Lisa got the project of Pure and fresh,
which she thought was an unnecessary consumer product .She could have used her
skills and could have got appreciated if she spoke openly to him as Scoville did have
willingness to hear her out and appreciate her ideas .

1. Lisa's major challenge was lack of communication, as she wasn’t proactive about what
she had in mind and what her actions spoke out loud. She always had one thing in mind
that Linton didn’t like MBA grad so, she didn’t want any ruckus to be caused for her,
that was leading to agreeing to things that she disagreed with.
2. Lisa could have asked for a meeting with Benton and Jack for more information on her
goals and objectives they had in mind for her, so she could have more clarity in
thoughts of her goals to be achieved. In the meeting she should be more active as she
being passive while sharing her opinion will make no difference. She should also
request for a reevaluation of her review and empathize on the points she couldn’t focus
on and can work on them.

● The I like, I wish and I wonder technique would have given Lisa a better clarity as she being
soft spoken in her attitude would have taken this as a point of improvement.
● The CEDAR technique where Benton could have told Lisa about Context, Example,
Diagnosis, Action and Review.
She should have spoken about the things she liked so far with respect to her work and post that
she could have told her the areas where she can improve on, rather than telling her own
perception about Lisa. Linton could have also given her specific instances where she felt Lisa
should have corrected or reacted as per her skills to solve the situation.

● Cognitive Engagement: When an employee knows about the company’s vision and
strategies, they tend to be more productive about the goal they see as a whole for them and the
company. Lisa couldn’t understand the work she had to perform during her early days in the
company. She should have been briefed about her career goals.
● Physical Engagement: When there is no criticism and you can speak without judgement
about the opinion you carry the employee feels empowered.

● Impression Management: A way of getting someone to see us likeable and trustworthy while
increasing the influence that we have on them. As Lisa is aware about the relationship between
Linton and Scoville, she can have trust from both of them by making sure that she performs
the given task properly and even letting Linton know that she has utilized her time efficiently
on desk and the reference she has in other departments that can be used positively.
Exchange information: Accepting a point of view while exchanging the resources is a mutual
trust that goes hand in hand. Lisa had an experience in her summer internship, she can use that
experience in marketing strategies to Scovilles as he doesn’t have much knowledge in
marketing due to his previous department change from operations.
. ● Coalition Formation: As Lisa knew that Linton’s boss and the remaining staff knew about
the capabilities that she had, she can use this as a positive method to transfer information for
word of mouth through the organization. This will help her for her referent power that she has.
Yes, the ethics have been breached by Lisa’s coworker multiple times.
● If we see from the starting on the first day itself, Linton and Scoville made it clear that they
do not like MBA grads as they are arrogant and tend to act as if they have all the knowledge.
This was a way where she was discriminated as an employee.
● Lisa was never given equal opportunity according to the skill she had, which actually
lowered her confidence. She was given copying work where she could have helped in
strategizing the marketing techniques.
● She never had mutual respect and the incident where Scoville yelled at her shows us that it is
a breach of ethics.
Question 8
Lisa may be happy due to not having to deal with the unhelpful management, but she may be
unhappy due to limited opportunities to grow as the company is small and she may regret her
actions of not trying to solve the problems at Household.
Staying hat Household, she could develop a good reputation as an employee and a future
leader. She could demonstrate her loyalty to the company and her ability to manage work with
Scoville and Linton. She can involve Vernon and explore the possibility of switching to
another brand where Lisa might get the training that she always wanted and she could focus on
her career development without any interference.
Low choices and less alternatives are another reason where she has to continue the job, the
package offered is the highest and the demerit of leaving would be settling for a lesser package
and lesser responsibilities.
