answer. Then, they write down their guess on the
whiteboard. Alternatively, students can indicate their
guess by raising their board. If they guess correctly, then
they get a point. The student/team with the most points

assessment) (EXPLAIN) HAqNKqKA&t=41s

The moon is the natural satellite of the Earth. It is the fifth

largest moon in our solar system and is approximately
one-quarter side of the Earth. The moon has no water,
no atmosphere, and no life. The surface of the moon is
covered with craters and mountains. It rotates on its own
axis while revolving around the Earth.

As it orbits the Earth, the moon seems to change shape

and disappear. It is due to the part that is light by the sun
as it goes around. The lighted part of the moon is called
the moon’s phase.

8 PHASES OF THE MOON

1. New moon- the unlighted side of the moon faces
the earth that makes it invisible when viewed from
the earth. The moon and the sun are aligned on
the same side of the earth.
2. Waxing crescent - occurs between the new
moon and first quarter moon. During this phase,
the moon is partially illuminated by the sunlight,
but only a small portion of the illuminated part can
be seen from Earth. The waxing crescent moon
appears as thin, crescent-shaped silver of the
light.
3. First quarter - occurs approximately one week
after the new moon phase. During this phase, the
moon appears half-circled in the sky, with one
side fully illuminated by sunlight and the other side
in the shadow.
4. Waxing gibbous – occurs between the first
quarter moon and full moon. During this phase,
the moon appears more than half illuminated but
not yet completely full. The waxing gibbous moon
appears as a round, bulging disc of light in the
sky, and is visible in the early evening and
throughout the night.
5. Full moon – occurs approximately two weeks
after the new moon phase. During this phase, the
moon is fully illuminated by the sun and appears
as a bright, round disc of light in the sky.
6. Waning gibbous- occurs between the full moon
and the third quarter moon. During this phase, the
moon appears as a large, round disc that is more
than half illuminated, but not yet fully illuminated.
The waning gibbous moon is visible in the sky
during the late night and early morning hours.
7. Third quarter moon – occurs approximately 3
weeks after the new moon phase. During this
phase, the moon appears as the half-illuminated
disc in the sky, with the left visible in the northern
hemisphere and the right side in the southern
hemisphere.
8. Waning crescent – is the final phase of the lunar
cycle that occurs just before the new moon.
During this phase, the moon appears as a thin
crescent in the sky, with only a small portion of its
right side illuminated.
