teaching English as a foreign language, and what are the main activities used in the
grammar-translation method?

3. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the audiolingual method in teaching English as a
foreign language, and what are the main activities used in the audiolingual method?

4. What are the main principles used in the direct method? What are the advantages and
disadvantages of using the direct method for teaching English as a foreign language?
1. Because the teacher is a source of information as well as a provider of knowledge, if the teacher himself
does not learn everything thoroughly then his students will not get complete knowledge. Or even worse if
the knowledge received is wrong.

2. Excess:
Develop students' skills and abilities in reading, writing and translating foreign language literature and
make it easier for students to learn foreign languages because they are allowed to use their mother tongue
(native language) in the language teaching process. Using this method, young children connect unfamiliar
words so that strong memory bonds can be formed.

Method

 The teacher uses the mother tongue / local in the teacher by inserting a little foreign language.
 Foreign language vocabulary teaching in list form
 Detailed explanations are given when discussing grammar
 Language teaching focuses on the formation of words in sentences based on grammatical rules.
 Text reading activities are given at the beginning of the material
 The discussion of content is not given too much attention because the text is used by Agil Athan to
analyze grammar
 Repetition (Drill I) exercises.

3. Implicitly, we have alluded to some of the advantages of the Audiolingual Method. As with other
language teaching methods, besides its advantages, there are also some weaknesses or deficiencies in the
Audiolingual Method.
1. The advantages of this method include:
a. Can be applied to classes that are being.
b. Give lots of practice and practice in aspects of listening and speaking skills.
c. Appropriate for the linguistic level of the students.
d. Audiolingual is perhaps the first theory of language teaching that openly claims to be formed from the
fusion of linguistics and psychology.
e. The Audiolingual method tries to make language learning more accessible to large numbers of learners
(large classes). This causes learner participation through drill techniques to be maximized.

deficiencies in the Audiolingual Method include:

a. Skilled and nimble teachers are needed
b. Deuteronomy is often boring and inhibits the hypothesis of language rules and pays very little attention
to spontaneous utterances.
c. The techniques used in the Audiolingual method such as drill, memorization, and so on may be able to
make language a behavior (ability), but this does not produce the expected competence.
d. With the Audiolingual method, maybe the teacher will complain about the amount of time it takes
(long), and students will complain about the boredom caused by drill patterns that are continuously used.
e. The role and activeness of the teacher is important in the Audiolingual method, so the teacher
dominates the class more.

4.The main principle in the direct method is the direct use of the target language in foreign language
teaching and learning techniques.
The disadvantage of this direct method is that it makes students who do not know about English experience
stug in one place.

The advantage of this direct method is, this crane method provides extraordinary habituation of the normal
language what the destination language is.
