1 Purpose

The purpose of Decision Analysis & Resolution (DAR) process defined in this document is to
provide step by step activities / tasks to identify possible alternatives of given critical issue,
analyze alternatives & select optimum solution of the issue.

4 Roles and Responsibilities

Senior Management ● Assign DAR Team Leader


● Assign DAR Team Members (at least one member should be
assigned).
● Select optimum solution based on solution suggested by team.

5 Process Description

5.1 Entry Criteria


● The identified issue is critical in nature & falls under category of formal evaluation.

5.2 Inputs
● Criteria to be evaluated

● Known alternatives against established criteria

5.3 Activities
5.3.1 Setup DAR Team
● Identify DAR Team Leader who has experience in dealing with such issues. In case
of non-availability of experienced person, assign management experienced person
for the task.
● In consultation with Team Leader identify team members. One or more members
should be selected in the team.
● Set the target completion date of the DAR process.

5.3.2 Define Criteria & Method


● Define DAR method to be used to evaluate identified alternatives, like qualitative or
quantitative method.
● Define criteria to evaluate the identified alternatives to reach ranking of
alternatives.
● If needed, assign weightage to defined criteria to provide appropriate importance.

5.3.3 Identify Alternatives


● Identify source of alternatives to gather maximum number of possible alternatives.
● Reduce possible alternatives to related alternatives. At least three or more
alternatives should be selected.

5.3.4 Evaluate & Rank Alternatives


● Assign score to each alternative against defined criteria.
● If weightage has been assigned to criteria, multiply score with weightage to get
weightage score.
● Sum score / weightage score to rank the alternatives.
● Alternative with maximum score becomes the proposed best solution.

5.3.5 Select Optimum Solution


● Best solution is proposed to senior management and senior management selects
optimum alternative as solution to possible decisions.
● If best solution (alternative with maximum score) is not selected, appropriate
rationale is recorded.

5.4 Verification
● The identified alternatives are reviewed for completeness & exhaustiveness.
● The evaluation result is reviewed for appropriate ranking.

5.5 Outputs
The analyzed alternatives for given issue as per defined criteria & method.

5.6 Exit Criteria


● The best solution of the issue has been identified & presented to management.
● Management has selected the optimum solution
