Bidding Document Section VI- Works Requiement GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS $2.01 $2.01 (1) $2.01 (2) (a) (0) ) SITE CLEARING DESCRIPTION The work in this Section shall consist of clearing, grubbing, removing of top soll, and removing and disposing of all vegetation and debris within the limits except such objects which are designated to remain in place or are to be removed in accordance with other Clauses of these Specification. This work shall also include the preservation from injury, damage or defacement of all vegetation and objects designated to remain or areas to be protected, CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS General The Engineer will establish the limits of site clearing work and designate all trees, shrubs, plants and other things to remain and areas to be protected, Clearing and Grubbing and Tree Removal All surface objects and all trees, down timber, rotten wood, stumps, roots, snags, bush, other vegetation, rubbish, and other protruding obstructions, not designated to remain, shall be cleared and/or grubbed, including disposal as required. Only felling of trees of girth greater than 300mm measured at 1.0m height above ground level will be paid for separately, trees and bushes smaller than this size will be dealt with and covered under Clearing and Grubbing. In areas under roadway embankments, from which top soll or unsuitable materials are to be removed or which are specified to be compacted, all stumps and roots shall be removed to a depth of at least 40 cm below the original ground surface and at least 50 ‘em below the battom of the lowest pavement layer. In roadway cut areas, all stumps and roots shall be removed to a depth of not less than '50 cm below the bottom of the Sub-grade. Clearing and grubbing of pits, channels, and ditches will be required only to the depth necessitated by the excavation within those areas. Holes left after removal of roots shall be filled with suitable material compacted in layers and to the density of the surrounding material Topsoll Stripping In areas under roadway embankments or where designated by the Engineer, the Contractor shall remove the topsoil and stockpile for reuse or dispose of it as directed by the Engineer. In general the removal of topsoil shall include only the removal of soil layer which is sufficiently fertile to encourage or sustain a growth of vegetation, Removal of topsoil over any designated area shall be executed to the depth of 40 em below the original ground surface and at least 30 cm below the bottom of the lowest pavement layer, and the topsoil shall be kept separate from other excavated materials. When the topsoil will be reused for other areas as directed by the Engineer or as indicated on the Drawings, the work of topsoil stripping will be deemed to include stockpiling the topsoil when necessary and removing from the stockpile and the placing and spreading of the topsoil in areas designated by the Engineer. After the placing spreading at required thickness in the designated areas, the topsoil shall be raked to form Bidding Document Section VI- Works Requiement GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS $2.01 (3) $2.01 (4) $2.01 (5) (a a smooth surface free from weeds, roots, sods and large stones of sizes greater than 50mm. Protection of Areas Designated to Remain In areas of protection designated to remain by the Engineer, the Contractor will be responsible for the protection and routine maintenance of existing shrubs, trees and grassed areas. On completion of the Works these areas will be returned to the Employer in the same condition as before and any damage due directly or indirectly to the Contractor's operations shall be made good at his own expense. DISPOSAL OF CLEARED MATERIAL In the first instance all cleared material is the property of the Employer and shall be used (oF disposed of in the manner as the Employer sees fit. The Contractor may however, have the right to use unsaleable timber (or saleable timber when permission is granted in writing by the appropriate Government agency or authority) for his own purposes in connection with the Contract always provided that he has ascertained and complied with the requirements of the appropriate Government agency or authority. Saleable timber shall be neatly stored in an approved accessible place within or near the right-of-way as directed and shall be trimmed and stacked in accordance with the requirements of the appropriate Government agency. The Contractor shall refer to the appropriate Government agency for definition or classification of saleable and unsaleable timbers. All other timber, except timber to be used, and all brush, stumps, roots, logs, and other refuse from the clearing and grubbing operation shall be disposed of at locations provided by the Contractor. The roadway and adjacent areas shall be left with a neat and finished appearance. No ‘accumulation of debris shall remain on or adjacent to the right-of way. METHOD OF MEASUREMENT Clearing and grubbing, topsoil stripping, protection of designated areas and protection of existing plantations and trees designated to remain in place, will together be considered ‘as Clearing and Grubbing, and will be paid for by measuring the total plan areas in square meter within the limits of site clearing works established by the Engincer. Tree removal will only be considered as Removal of Existing Trees and will be paid for by number of trees removed of minimum girth exceeding 300mm. The work of Clearing and Grubbing, Removal of Existing Tree for disposal sites, material storage sites, imported borrow pit sites, haul roads and all temporary work areas for construction or facilites of the Contractor shall not be measured or paid for When such sites are outside the areas designated for clearing and grubbing, the Contractor is deemed to have exercised his own option as to whether he elects to use such temporary work areas, disposal sites or borrow pit sites on the basis of the foregoing provisions that no payment will be made for the works of any site clearance, rubbing, topsoll stripping and trees removal in such areas. BASIS OF PAYMENT The work measured as provided above shall be paid for as below mentioned. The payment shall be full compensation for furnishing all labor, materials, tools, equipment and incidentals necessary to do the work and for doing the Clearing and Gruobing, Bidding Document Section VI- Works Requirement GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS Topsoil Stripping, removal, temporary stockpiling and subsequent placing and spreading in designated areas, protection of existing plantation and trees designated to remain, and Removal of Existing Tree and disposal as specified in these Specifications and as directed by the Engineer including if necessary, removal, stockpiling for reuse, placing and spreading at final locations and disposal of the resulting material Pay item Pay Unit 2.01.1 Clearing and Grubbing.
