CHAPTER IV

Results and Discussion

This chapter includes the results of the expirement

analysis and the interpretation of the data collected. The
researcher conducted presents the results of a three-day
experiment aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of a
repellent in deterring ants. The repellent was extracted and
placed in a 60 ml empty bottle spray. Observations were made
at specific time intervals to assess the ants' response to the
repellent. The findings provide valuable insights into the
repellent's efficacy and the behavioral patterns exhibited by
the ants.

CHEMICAL COMPOSITION

Lemongrass (Cymbopogon) and Tabasco pepper (Capsicum

frutescens). Lemongrass, scientifically known as Cymbopogon,
is a plant that possesses natural insect-repellent properties.
It contains citronellal, geraniol, and citral compounds, which
are known to repel ants and other insects. Tabasco pepper, on
the other hand, is derived from Capsicum frutescens and
contains capsaicin, a compound responsible for the pepper's
spicy nature. Capsaicin is believed to deter ants due to its
strong odor and irritating effect on their sensory receptors.
By combining these two ingredients, the mixture aims to create
an effective ant repellent solution for the experiments
conducted in the study.

Table 1:
Time Interval Observations
Day 1
5 minutes Majority of ants avoided the
treated area.
10 minutes Increased avoidance behavior
in ants.
Day 1: After 5 minutes of using the repellent, the majority of
ants avoided the treated area. By 10 minutes, there was an
increased avoidance behavior observed in the ants.

Table 2:
Time Interval Observations
Day 2
15 minutes Continued avoidance behavior,
decreased mobility.
20 minutes Ants continue to avoid
treated area, possible
increased mortality.

Day 2: At the 15-minute mark, the ants continued to exhibit

avoidance behavior and showed decreased mobility. After 20
minutes, the ants still avoided the treated area, and there
was a possibility of increased mortality.

Table 3:
Time Interval Observations
Day 3
25 minutes Ants continue to avoid
treated area, no mortality
observed.
30 minutes Ants are observed to be fast
moving away from the spray of
repellent.

Day 3: After 25 minutes, the ants continued to avoid the

treated area, but no mortality was observed. By 30 minutes,
the ants were observed to be fast moving away from the spray
of the repellent.
