Chapter 1 – Background to the Problem (DUE DATE APRIL10-14, 2023)

Describe the Setting Adequately

Introduction – appropriately introduce the concern/need/issue and its impact on the teaching

and learning interactions.

 In the classroom, it is important for educators to use behavioral management strategies

and methods to promote positive behavior and discourage disruptive conduct. This is

because disruptive behavior can negatively impact the teacher-student dynamic and

hinder the learning process for all involved. However, by implementing effective

behavioral management techniques, teachers can encourage positive behavior and create

a more positive and productive learning environment. These strategies can also foster a

sense of community and improve the relationship between teachers and students. It is

crucial for teachers to have a solid understanding of these tactics to ensure that their

classrooms are optimized for learning.

As a business teacher at the Camperdown High School, the teachers (my) main responsibility

will be to educate and support students in the areas of accounting and business principles. This

will entail developing lesson plans, conducting lectures, facilitating discussions, and providing

personalized assistance to students as needed.

In addition to these teaching duties, the teacher (my) will also be responsible for creating a

positive and productive classroom atmosphere and managing student behavior. This will involve

implementing effective behavioral management strategies, setting clear expectations and


consequences, and providing tailored support to students who require additional attention due to

complex behavioral needs.

The role of a business teacher at Camperdown High School is a significant responsibility that

requires a high level of expertise, competence, and professionalism. The student will have the

opportunity to positively impact the academic and social-emotional well-being of their students

while also contributing to the larger goals of the school community.

The interest/concern/issue identified in clear and concise terms/the need or problem is

supported by data (e.g. national, regional, and/or school/agency statistics).

 Answer the following: What was happening that needed to be changed?

Teachers face many challenges in managing student behaviour, including disruptive

behaviour, lack of engagement, and other behaviours that interfere with the learning

process. These behaviours may be a result of various factors, such as learning

disabilities, mental health issues, poverty, or trauma.

To address these challenges, educators and researchers have developed various

strategies and techniques that can help promote positive behaviour and reduce

disruptive behaviour in the classroom. These strategies include creating a positive

classroom environment, establishing clear expectations and consequences, providing

individualized support, and using positive reinforcement. Additionally, restorative justice

practices, social-emotional skill teaching, and collaboration with families and other

professionals are also effective strategies. Ultimately, the need for behavioural

management in the classroom arises from the goal of promoting a conducive learning

environment for students and supporting their academic and social-emotional growth.

With effective behavioural management strategies, teachers can help students develop

the skills they need to succeed in school and in life.

Who would benefit from intervention?

and adults, and academic success. Teachers benefit from reduced disruptive behaviour,

increased job satisfaction, and reduced stress and burnout. Parents benefit from their

child's academic and social-emotional improvements, while the wider community

benefits from responsible and productive citizens. Overall, interventions for behavioural

management in the classroom have a positive impact on multiple stakeholders and

contribute to a better learning environment.

How extensive was the problem?

A significant number of teachers report that student behavior is a challenge in their

classrooms, and research has shown that disruptive behavior can have a negative impact
