Unit Title
Impact of drugs and alcohol abuse among high school students
Unit Summary
The purpose of this lesson plan is to investigate the variables that lead high school kids to begin abusing
substances like alcohol and drugs. In a similar vein, the plan for the unit focuses on the steps and procedures
that may be implemented to eradicate this pattern in high schools across the country. The lesson plan provides
information about the detrimental impacts that substance misuse and alcohol abuse have on high school
pupils, both in the long term and the short term.
Curriculum Links
The unit plan is mainly targetting the youths. Students at this level all around the United States are concerned
about the issue of substance misuse, specifically alcohol and drug abuse. Students of this age are either
adolescents themselves or are readily persuaded to engage in substance usage by their peers because of their
age. Students' bodies, emotions, and minds are all negatively impacted when drugs and alcohol are abused in
high school, and this has the potential to increase the number of students who drop out of school altogether.
Approximate Time Needed
The classes for this unit include two one hour classes per week. The classes should last for 3 months

Instructional Procedures/Teaching-Learning Activities
As a component of the learning cycle that is utilised in this particular subject, having a game plan for what
information the students should acquire and how the knowledge should be evaluated is essential. The targeted
results of the teaching, the planning stage, and the assessment stage make up the three stages that comprise
the instructional procedure. During the stage of determining the desired instructional outcome, the instructor
will determine the subject standards and benchmarks that will be covered by the unit. After that, observable
and quantifiable learning outcomes are derived from the content standards. When this is done, the instructor
will have a blueprint of what she expects her students to know and comprehend, as well as an outline of which
curriculum-based standards her students will fulfil. During the planning stage, the teacher develops lesson
plans by determining which teaching and instructional tactics have shown to be successful in the past and
implementing those strategies into the lesson plans. The lesson plans are accompanied by appropriate
assessments, and the lessons themselves are carried out with the pupils. Assessments will be given to the
students in the final stage, and decisions will be made regarding whether or not the standards and the
intended learning outcomes have been fulfilled. This instructional procedure is interractive in that it is centered
on the needs of the students.
Accommodations for Differentiated Instruction

Students with special needs require close monitoring to ensure that they are
grasping the elements taught in classroom. To ensure the needs of the
students with special needs are met, there is the need t adjust the teaching
module. For these kind of students, there is extra time for study and

consultation allocated. This ensures that the students and the teacher have a
with
close relationship. However, the learning objectives are not adjusted as the
Special
Needs students are also capable of achieving the set objectives with proper
education strategy. The special needs learners will however have modified
assignments which are mostly practical and engaging. This implies that the
tests are mostly oral. The students with special needs are also grouped
together to ensure that they are learning effectively.
Contrary to the special needs students, there are also the gifted students. Gifted
students in this case also require close attention to ensure that they are comfortable
with the teaching module. The teaching plan for the gifted students is modified to
Gifted have more challenging tasks. The students are also allocated extra hours that are
Student optional. This strategy is mainly meant to challenge the learners. The gifted students
are mostly comfortable with teaching modules that challenge them. The gifted
students are also tasked with conducting research on topics of their choice as part of
challenging themselves.
ESL students are accomodated by ensuring that they have ample time to grasp the
key concepts taught in the lesson while at the same time learn the English language.
In this teaching module, this is ensured through creating a word wall with the most
ESL important terms. It will be helpful if the tutor provide models of finished homework
Student assignments and projects. The tutor also checks to see that the examinations and
tasks given to the students are written in clear, succinct language and are simple to
read. The tutors makes available a wide choice of reading materials, spanning a
number of reading levels, that cover themes covered in the curriculum.
