Unit-Title: Trial Balance

Sub-Topic: Trial Balance Cont’d

General Objectives:

Students should be able to:

● Demonstrate an understanding of how to “Balance Off Accounts”

Specific Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

● define the terms “Balance Brought Down (b/d) and Balance Carry Down (c/d)”

● understand the purpose of a Trial Balance.

● outline the uses and limitations of the Trial Balance.

● construct a Trial Balance from a given set of transactions.

Prerequisite Knowledge: Students will be prompted to recall and apply their knowledge on an activity

based from a previously learned material. Students should be aware to draw up a “T. Account”.

Key-Skills: Recall & Interpretation.

Key Vocabulary: Trial Balance

Materials: Whiteboard, Markers, Paper, Pen, Books.

Methodology: The five (5) E’s and Recollection.

Introductory Activity: Students will be engaged in a bodily movement activity (to get them out of sleep

mode).

5E’s

Engagement:

Students will be engaged in a small activity. They are expected to “Balance Off Accounts”, so that they

may use this activity to use for constructing a “Trial Balance”

Duration: 5 mins

Exploration:

After the students are fully engaged and ready to proceed with the day’s lesson, they will undergo a little

introduction into the lesson. After the introduction has been made, they will be required to tap into their

prerequisite knowledge on “Balancing Off Accounts”. Students will be given the term “Trial Balance”, and

will be expected to do some research in their school textbooks, or on their phones to look for the term (Trial

Balance). After they have done that small research, they will be asked to share what they have learnt. The

students then will be given an activity to finish within a specific time. This activity will be used as an

example to construct a “Trial Balance”.

Duration: 10 mins

Explanation:

After the students have done their research and shared their own definition of the given term. They will be

required to engage in a class discussion with their responses. Following the discussion, learners provided

with feedback, clarification (if any) and additional information regarding the topic.
Duration: 5 mins

Elaboration:

Succeeding the sharing of content and other discussion students will be engaged in a Class Session,

explaining terms in relations to a “Trial Balance”, the purpose, the process and showing examples. The

term “Trial Balance”, and the Trial Balance errors will be further explained by the teacher using the school

book. Students will be asked to take notes in their notebooks/phones for future reference. Students then will

be given activities to do on their own, then the teacher will be going through the activity with the students

to see if they understood what was taught.

Duration: 30 mins

Evaluation:

Students will be asked to what they understood from the lesson. Then, they will be assessed on what they

have learnt from the lesson. They will be given questions. After they have finished, they will be ranked

based on who answered the questions correctly and quicker than the other students.
