- You are to recite the ‘African Child’. If you can recite the African Child without
mistakes, consider yourself receiving a perfect score. But if you encounter
mispronunciations or mistakes, the number of mistakes will be demerited to the perfect
score and the difference will be your score.

Activity 6. Chomsky’s P and C. Differentiate Performance and Competence through an

example situation. For Example, Competence is the ability of the person to play guitar even if his
hands are broken in the accident, but he cannot perform it because his hands are broken already.
- The English Majors planned an acquaintance party for them to get to know each other,
but they failed to realize the chosen date is their midterm week.

Activity 7. Krashen’s SLA. As a language learner, what type of hypothesis does it apply to you?
Explain how that is possible.
- The hypothesis that would best apply to me is the Affective Filter Hypothesis. I have had
this problem: Whenever I am asked to speak in front of people, I tend to forget things or
have a blank mind while talking. It is caused by the anxiety and overthinking I’ll have
before I speak. The effect would be low self-confidence; with that, what I have prepared
and have in mind is no longer arranged nor speakable in front of these people.
