Grade 3 Conjunction

Learning Objectives

At the end of this module, the pupils must:


1. Read a poem that relates to the topic which is conjunction that the teacher will
discuss.
2. Identify in front of the class what conjunction words are in a poem.
3. Recite the poem that they have written about their first day of school experiences
using conjunction words.

The teacher will ask the pupils if they have an idea about poetry. For the first activity, the
pupils will read a poem called “ My favorite word” by Elizabeth Steinglass. After that, they have
to pay attention to the conjunction words that has been used in the poem.

For this activity, the teacher will call one student, and that student is going to identify what
conjunctions have been used in the poem that they read recently.

A conjunction is a word or phrase that connects words, phrases, clauses, and sentences
together. The word and is a commonly used example of a conjunction. Here are two examples
of how we can use a conjunction like and in both a simple and complex way:

Example:
The flower is yellow and white. (connects two adjectives)
The flower is yellow, and it has a particular smell. (connects two sentences)

Conjunctions are useful in writing and speech to connect related ideas together, and they
help us make our sentences shorter, less repetitive, or less confusing.

List of common conjunctions


The following list contains some of the most commonly used conjunctions:
And, but, or, so, because, however, after, since, during, than, unless, that, and while

Types of Conjunction

In this creative speaking activity, the pupils are going to complete this poem about their
experiences on first day of school using conjunction words. This activity will also help you get to
know your student and see if they are really listening to the discussion.

in front of the class the poem that they wrote earlier.
