Experiment on How Memory Works

She is Sofia and she is a five-year-old girl. She is a neighbor of one of our
groupmates. She is the one who our groupmates chose to teach how to play badminton
and what behaviors and skills may be used while playing badminton. We choose to
teach her badminton because it helps the body to be physically fit and improve cognitive
development such as being active, focused, and determined. I'll also discover how her
memory works in the game.

INITIAL OBSERVATION:
The first thing our groupmates taught her is the essential behavior to play
badminton, and at the same time she also taught her the fundamentals of badminton.
Because this is Sofia's first-time playing badminton, we saw that she is not as confident
or focused on learning how to play as she should be. She also struggled with the
techniques Shannien taught her, such as long and short serving, back hand and
forehand gripping. Finally, she has a tendency to forget the skills that Shannien has
taught her since, at her age, she is easily distracted by the things around her.

SECOND OBSERVATION:
We saw the next day that she only remembered a portion of what Shannien
taught her on the first day, and we hypothesized that this was because her attention
was not entirely focused on learning how to play badminton. Shannien teaches her once
again in order for her to recall what she has been taught. However, because she is
distracted by her surroundings, she finds it difficult to implement what Shannien has
taught her, resulting in her forgetting every step she makes and finding it tough to
execute. But when times goes by, we observed that she gradually keeps in mind some
of the skills in badminton Shannien taught her. She also learns to focus her attention in
learning badminton because she eventually enjoys it.

THIRD OBSERVATION:
At the following days, the teaching session continue. We observed that she is
more than willing to learn. She is able to apply what Shannien taught her the past day
without reminding her again. She becomes more alert and focused on playing and
applying skills and lastly, she speeds up her movements. As we observed, she also fully
keeps in mind the skills until she learned because she automatically knows what certain
skill is needed to be apply in a certain badminton situation.
CONCLUSION:
On the last day of teaching and mentoring Sofia on how to play badminton, I saw
that she improved, I saw a lot of improvement when she took shots with the shuttle
cock, her grip become stronger and her movements became fast. In terms of game
strategy, she knows and calculates where to do a stroke. Even though things need
more practice and training, I can say that her improvements were good for a young first-
timer in sports. Finally, we discovered that memory works best when we pay attention to
it.
