Narrative Report About Social Experiment

our professor, assigned us to conduct a social experiment for our pre-final period
activity. A social experiment is a type of research conducted in fields such as
psychology or sociology to determine how people behave in specific situations or how
they react to specific policies or programs. Pranks and other informal, personal, and
humorous experimentation are examples of social experiments. Ms. Rafols gave us the
freedom to choose the type of social experiments we would conduct as well as the
members of our group.
I've been in Group 3 since prelims and have decided to stay with them, but we've
combined with Group 4. When the group was finalized, we held a group chat and
discussed what kind of social experiments we would conduct. We decided to conduct
Altruism Social Experiments because they are much easier and safer. Altruism is the
unselfish concern for others—doing things simply because you want to help, rather than
because you feel obligated to do so due to duty, loyalty, or religious reasons. It entails
acting out of concern for the welfare of others.
We decided to make a video of our social experiment on November 21, 2022.
We agreed on a meeting location and time, but only 5 of us showed up. Nonetheless,
we decided to keep the social experiment going. I brought some of the necessary props,
such as a stack of papers and ballpoint pens. We go to a place where there are a lot of
people because we concluded that if we do the social experiment in a place where there
are a lot of people, the chances of success are higher.
Criss volunteered to be the first to participate in the social experiment, followed
by Shan, me, May , and Jan . I couldn't watch Criss and Shann do the social experiment
because I was afraid no one would help them and we'd be caught making the video.
When it's my turn to do the social experiment at the terminal, I get more nervous. I get
ready my props, which are a bunch of ballpens. The situation will be that I am going to
buy candies, but when I get my money in my pouch, a bunch of ballpens will shattered
on the floor. In my first attempt, the man gladly assisted me in picking up the ballpens.
In my second attempt, the lady simply ignored the shattered ballpen and kept eating.
The social experiment that we conducted taught me that some people are
naturally inclined to help others while others are not. But I'm not judging the people in
our video who don't help us because, at times, I'm like them. I knew they wanted to
help, but they might have been embarrassed.
