several components and sold by an
intermediary such as tour operator or

THE ELEMENTS

Validity Dates:
 This normally stipulates the dates a traveller is allowed
to avail himself/herself of packages offered.
 The usual consideration for validity is the seasonality
of the travel period.
the travel seasonality in the Philippines is as follows:

 Holy Week
High or Peak Season  Summer months June to July
 Christmas Season, December to mid-January

 January-May
Low Season  August to November
Duration:
 This element states how long the tour
package is supposed to last.
 This is usually printed in large bold numbers
and letters at the top of the flyer indicating
how many days and nights a trip will take
THE INCLUSIONS

TRANSPORTATION:
 This refers to the transportation as transit or
the means of the tourist to arrive and
depart from the destination.
 These may include but are not limited to air,
ocean lines, or bus/coach arrangements
Transfers:
 These are the transportation
arrangements for pick-up and
drop-off of the visitor to and from the
tourist’s accommodations.
 Industry terms most commonly used
when arranging transfers are ETA, ETD.
Destination Transportation:
 The transportation requirements at the
destination may be included.
 Usually are the local forms of land
transportation available at the destination
such as cars, coasters, or bus
arrangements.
Accommodations:
 Room arrangements from pre-arranged
suppliers may be a list of hotels that the
tourist may choose from to suit his or her
preference.
MEALS:
 The most general type of meal inclusion is that of breakfast.
 In the Philippines, choices may range from the following:
American breakfast (toast bread,eggs,bacon)
Continental breakfast (
Buffet/Filipino (all-silog meals)
Types of Meal Plan:
European Plan (EP) this does not include any meals
and presents a significant savings to the TO. Under
this plan, tour participants are required to pay for all
their meals.
Continental Plan (CP) tour participants receive a
daily light breakfast.
Modified American Plan (MAP) tour participants
receive breakfast and one other main meal, usually
dinner.
Types of Meal Plan:
American Plan (AP) tour participants receive all
three daily meals as part of their tour package. The
AP is common on cruise ships and tours that visit
more remote or isolated areas

Bermuda Plan (BP) tour participants receive a full

cooked breakfast, but no other meals are provided.
TOURS:
 The most common among the tours is a
City Tour, normally a half-day duration.
 Other packages may have what are
indicated as Optional Tours, describing to
tourists some popular areas, which may be
possible places of interest for the visitor and
may be added to the basic package.
MISCELLANEOUS:
 Other charges may be indicated in the
package for inclusion such as special
shows, taxes, service fees, baggage
handling services or gratuities.
 Other less value items are but they could
also give pleasure to the tour participants
are promotional gifts, complimentary drinks,
welcoming event or reception.

Land Arrangement Tour Packages
1. Free and Easy
 Travellers on a tight budget usually choose
this type of package as leaves the travellers
the freedom to fix their own schedules and
bargain for other tours with the cheapest
service providers.
 The Free and Easy is the simplest of
packages which have only two inclusions:
Accommodation and Transfers
Inclusion 1
Accommodations. This may be specified with
or without breakfast. Accommodations are
booked depending on the number of
passengers who will avail themselves of the
room.

• SGL – Single room

• TWN – Twin room that is for 2 pax
• TPL – Triple room for 3 pax
• QUAD – Quadruple room for 4 pax
Inclusion 2
Transfers. These basic inclusions leave the
tourists the option to book or arrange their own
flight arrangements, where many opt to
purchase seats from low cost carriers.
As for tours, if the places they to have tourist
information, some may choose to roam around
on their own.
Land Arrangement Tour Packages
2. Half-Board
 the half-board tour has the same
inclusions as the Free and Easy
package with meal inclusions of either
one lunch or one dinner.
 this package allows the passenger to
choose that in addition to the breakfast
arrangements, a second meal per day is
included, be it lunch or dinner.
Land Arrangement Tour Packages
3. Full-Board
 The full board package tour is one that has
the components of a half-board package
arranges all three meals in a day.
 If the passenger would like to try more
local cuisine options but is afraid to try it
alone, this allows the intermediary to
choose the places where such meals
can be taken and yet give the traveller
a taste of more “authentic” food and
presumably sanitary food.
Land Arrangement Tour Packages
4. Full Land Arrangements
 The focus of this package type is that there
is the additional dimension of a City Tour
and a list of Optional Tours to pack the
days of the visitors with activities.
 Each Optional Tour has a corresponding
price, transportation information, duration of
the tour and whether the meals will be
served or whether passengers will just be
brought to a food establishment and they
are to pay on passenger’s account
 A full land arrangement tour does not
necessarily mean full board.
 The travel consultant has the obligation to
properly explain to the tourists what are
included in each day’s activities so that angry
clients will not come back to complain if
their expectations are not met.
 If a passenger wants to include full board in
this type of package, he needs to inform in
advance so that arrangements may be made
prior to departure and additional fees may
also be collected.
 Sometimes arrangements may be made but
payment will be made at the site.
All-Inclusive Tour Packages
Means ALL items are arranged and paid for and
all the passengers needs to do is show up.
 inclusions of this are:
 all transpo (both transfer and the
transpo)
 all tours, as identified
 all meals
 all nights for accommodation
 all fees (entrance fees, environmental
fees)
 tour guiding service fee
 miscellaneous fees
 “Group Tours often offer these all-inclusive
packages because allowing passengers to
stray from each other and pursue individual
itineraries will make it difficult for the tour
escort and the tour guide to gather them
back.
 activities are timed and a schedule is
followed in order to deliver all the items
stipulated in the package terms.
 these activities prepared in itineraries can
sometimes appear differently fro standard
“AM”and “PM” timings to indicate morning
and afternoon departures.
 Airlines and tour operators worldwide have
made a practice of using what is commonly
known as “military time,” expressing hours in
a 24-hour format .
 It is important to explain your clients when
these times are reflected.
 This simply means that times are reflected as
0000H-2359H, with 0000H
 It is customary that even during all-inclusive
tours, there are some hours set aside as “free
time” when the passengers may do what they
wish to do, to explore the place or shop with
no pressure of having to keep time.

target market

to as an F.I.T (or FIT) short for Foreign
Independent Tour . Though it is not generally

is generally more expensive to operate than

 Participants in an Independent tour can depart and return on any day and can even
adjust the length of their stay

transfers from the airport to the hotel and accommodations at a single hotel
 Relaxation at the resort is the primary purpose of the independent travellers.
HOSTED Tours
 This type of tour is conducted at the destination
region.
 The tour is called “hosted” tour because the
local operator acts as the host of the to guests.
 Typically the host is the representative of a tour
company or ground operator. He serves as an
information specialist, facilitating the needs and
wants of the travelling guests.
 Participants in a hosted tour often arrive
separately from the others.
 Most of their activities are done individually, not
as a group.
ESCORTED/GUIDED Tours
 escorted tours commonly visit many
destinations and as a result the tour
participants are frequently on the move.
 They often stop in several different locations
throughout the tour.
 Travelling between the sightseeing stops is
generally done in a motor-coach.
 All tour participants will stay in the same
accommodation.
 The tour participants are escorted from the time
the tour begins until the time is completed.

COSTING and PRICING.
 Tour costing is the total cost or expenses incurred or
attributed to a tour product service.
 The costing and pricing of tour packages depend to a
large extent on the ability of tour operator, how effectively
one is able to negotiate with the service provider.
 The cost of a tour is calculated on the basis of what he
has negotiated with the producers thus, costing is done by
adding each element of cost.
 In pricing a tour package, it should add percentage of
profit margin to the cost.
 Some extra cost is also added for unforeseen
emergencies.
