INTRODUCTION SPEECH
(Introducing Myself 20 years from now)

Good afternoon graduates, parents, to all the familiar faces here, and of course to the mentors .
Today, I am not only congratulating you, the graduates who completed years of learning in high school, but I
am also congratulating your proud parents and relatives. They have been waiting for this extraordinary
academic achievement. It’s normal to feel anxious and maybe scared after today’s celebration, but I suggest
taking it easy and relaxing for a bit because you deserve it. Now let me ask you, graduates, are you ready to
go out there and face life’s challenges? are you prepared to take a new step into the future?

Twenty years ago, I was just like you. I was happy, excited but I also felt fear, the fear of the
unknown future, the fear of new routines, the fear of being in a different surrounding, new places, and new
friends. But aside from anxiety, there was also heartache. I was forced to take a course that I was not
comfortable with. I pursued BS in Civil Engineering, not because I wanted to, but it was what my parents
wanted me to take. I was scared of my course, not because of mathematics, not because of the subjects I’d
encounter, but because I believed that I would fail because it wasn’t something I was passionate about. So
there I was, a university student, taking up BS in Civil Engineering. During my first year, I was cultured
shocked, and it was worse than I even expected. The subjects we tackled felt impossible to intake, and some
instructors made it even harder for us. But you see, life is full of twists and turns. During my first year in
college, I realized what we didn’t like at that moment might be interesting for us in the next. That’s precisely
what happened to me. A person that wasn’t passionate about his course later fell in love with it. Because of
my instructors, the course became more complex, but with that, it made me driven to succeed and pass. It
wasn’t easy, but I got to where I wanted to be. I started loving my course and got the idea of graduating with
Latin honors. Fast forward, after many sleepless nights, I did graduate, not with Latin honors, but I was still
thankful that it was a battlefield I conquered. From my experience, I want to give you this piece of advice.
College is not just about passing subjects. It is the place where we can discover new skills or talents and a
place where we can find a new passion waiting to rise. Months after graduating college, I was able to get my
license, travel abroad, land my dream job, and even find the love of my life. Of course, life is not a one-path
journey. All of these weren’t attained easily; as I’ve said, life is full of twists and turns, and the only way to
overcome them is to have courage, to face them with our heads held high, and of course to give our faith to
the Lord.

What I have right now is because of hard work, determination, and guidance from the people
that I love. How I chose my path, I am not alone. I may have everything I dreamed of and maybe even more;
however, I am still on my journey to success because success is a never-ending process towards happiness
and fulfillment, and it’s ever-changing because goals change as we grow older. I want to end this speech with
a quote from anonymous, “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is to
always try just one more time.” So I will not ask you again whether you’re indeed ready to go out there because
I know deep inside you all are! As long as you open your eyes to see windows of opportunities, to be quick
and firm with your decisions, to think about your parents, family, friends, and all the people who supported
you and made you believe in yourself, and most importantly, pray to God, then you’ll all be alright. Thank
you for listening, and having me, and congratulations, graduates!
