Core Subject Description:


This curriculum guide is an exploratory course in Beauty Care (Nail Care) Services which leads
to National Certificate Level II (NC II). It covers four common competencies that a Grade 7/8
Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) student ought to possess, namely: 1) use of tools
and equipment; 2) interpreting nail design; 3) practicing Occupational Health and Safety
Procedures (OHSP); and 4) maintain tools, equipment and paraphernalia. The preliminaries of
this exploratory course include the following: 1) discussion on the relevance of the course; 2)
explanation of the key concepts relative to the course and; 3) exploration on career
opportunities.

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards:
The learner demonstrates understanding of concepts, principle and techniques in
manicure and pedicure services.

B. Performance Standards:
The learner independently performs manicure and pedicure services.

C. Learning Objectives:
At the end of the period, students are able to:
a. Understand correct procedures for applying nail polish;
b. ensure cleanliness in performing different tasks; and
c. perform the correct application of nail polish.

E. Value Concept: Cleanliness is a value under the physical dimension, and it


refers to the state of being clean or the act of keeping things clean. Applying nail
polish isn't just for aesthetic purposes; it is also done for hygienic reasons and to
protect the nail plates. The value of cleanliness is important to integrate because
it is a necessary step for nail preparation to ensure a neat, smooth, and even
application of nail polish.

F. Basic Concept: In this lesson, students will learn the basic concepts of nail
polish and how to correctly apply it on others.

C. Setting the Mood: VTI ENTRY POINT


Strategy: Giving captions to a picture.
Direction: The teacher will show a picture of a comparison of two hands, one of
which is different in terms of its cleanliness. The whole class will work together
and be tasked with giving an appropriate caption to the picture.

explain.

3 Proper procedure of applying nail polish. (Rubie, 2022).


1. Preparing your nail
a. Remove old polish
b. Trim, file, and smooth your nails
c. Moisturize your nail
d. Removing excess oil
2. Keeping the polish neat and even
a. Adding petroleum jelly
b. Adding base coat
3. Application of nail polish
a. Apply 1st coat of polish
➢ Place a small dab of polish at the base of your nail above your
cuticle.
➢ Use the brush to pull the dab of polish down towards the cuticle—
do your best to leave a small gap of nail between the polish and
your cuticle.
➢ Swipe the brush in a straight line from the base to the tip of your
nail.
➢ Return the brush to the base of your nail. Move the brush upwards
along the left curve of your nail until the entire side is coated in
polish.
➢ Return the brush to the base of your nail. Move the brush upwards
along the right curve of your nail until the entire side is coated in
polish.
➢ Let it dry.

application.
