Objective:
Prove that gases have the following properties: mass, volume,
temperature, and pressure.

Activity A: Gases and its Mass

Materials
 3 rubber balloons of the same kind
 Digital balance
 Baloon pump (optional)

Table 1. Data for the Mass of Gas Inside the Balloon

Trial Mass of the Mass of the Difference in mass
deflated balloon inflated balloon (inflated-deflated)
(g) (g) (g)
1 3.00 g 2.96 g -0.04 g
2 3.19 g 3.04 g -0.15 g
3 3.08 g 1.93 g -1.15 g
Average 3.12 g 2.64 g -1.34 g

1. Is the mass of the deflated balloon different from the mass of the
inflated balloon?
- Yes, the mass of the deflated balloon is different from the mass of
the inflated balloon.

2. Which is heavier, the inflated or the deflated balloon? Why?

- Supposedly, an inflated balloon should weigh heavier than a
deflated balloon because there is air inside. And air has mass.
However, based on the results we gathered through our
observation and experiment, the deflated balloon is heavier. This is
because even if there is air pumped inside an inflated balloon, it's
buoyant force will reduce its overall mass or weight making it less
dense than the deflated balloon.

3. What can you say in this activity?

- Due to the results gathered from our experimentation, we can infer
that gas can make an object's mass lighter.

Activity D: Gases and its

Pressure
Materials
 Erlenmeyer Flask
 Alcohol Lamp
 Tripod
 Wire Gauze
 Match
 Denatured Alcohol

Guide Questions:
1. What happens to the inflated balloon?
- Typing

2. What causes this phenomenon?

- typing
3. What happens to the shape of the balloon?
- Typing

4. What causes the balloon to change its shape and size?

- The shape and size of balloon changes when filled with air or
water because these both substances are compressible and can
be compressed.
