Welcome to Morning Kids.

Why hello there. I'm so happy that you're here.

Welcome to Morning Kids.
Is this your first time listening or do you listen every day? You know what? It doesn't actually
matter because you're welcome here anytime.
My name's Virginia and I'm just about ready to get today's show started.
I'm wondering, are you? Tell us about today.
What a great idea.
Today's Tuesday, the 28th of March, 2023.
And along with the date, something else that we like to find out each day is what kind of
weather we're going to have so that we can be prepared.
Shall we check the weather on the Bureau of Meteorology website to see what's happening
today in some different parts of Australia? Let's head over to Western Australia and see what
the weather's going to be like in Margaret River, which is a small town just below Perth that
has some great surf features.
Well today in Margaret River, it looks like it's going to be a cloudy day with a little bit of sun
and a top temperature of 25 degrees.
Sounds like a good day to wear a hat and some sunscreen and maybe go for a little dip in
the ocean.
Now let's head back to the east of Australia.
Back over towards Mildura, which is a city that's located towards the top part or the north
of Victoria.
And today in Mildura looks like the weather's going to be cloudy as well with a little chance
of some rain and also a top of 25 degrees.
So also a good day to wear your hat and sunscreen in Mildura, but maybe pack an umbrella
for just in case.
It's Tasty Tuesday.
The day of the week where we open up our fringes and cupboards to learn more about food.
Now a short time ago we learned all about bread and today we're going to learn about
something you can make with bread.
And that is a sandwich.
That's right, a sandwich is usually made by putting different kinds of foods or toppings
between two pieces of bread.
It's a very popular snack or lunchtime meal because it's easy and quick to make and you
don't always need a knife.
And you definitely don't need a fork or a spoon to eat it.
You can just eat it with your hands.
But where did the sandwich first come from? Well, many, many years ago there was a man
from the United Kingdom called John Montague.
And John had another name too.
He was called the Earl of Sandwich.
And John Montague liked to play card games, but he didn't like having to stop for a meal.
So one day he asked for a piece of meat to be put between two pieces of bread so that he
could eat and continue playing.
And he loved his new snack and ta-da! The name Sandwich was set.
Apart from meats like ham and chicken, there are so many ingredients that you can put
between two slices of bread.
And many different combinations include things such as egg and egg and lettuce, or
vegemite or vegemite and cheese, or just plain cheese, or even a salad sandwich, like with
carrot and beetroot and lettuce and cucumber and tomato.
The list is absolutely endless.
The largest sandwich ever made was at a cafe in the United States called Wild Woody's
Chillin Grill.
And that sandwich had lots of slices of bread with mustard and corned beef and cheese and
lettuce, and it weighed more than 2,467 kilograms.
That's heavier than a lot of cars.
Wow! I wonder how long that sandwich took to eat.
So sandwiches are pretty popular.
In fact, in many countries, children eat sandwiches for lunch, school or daycare every single
day.
And it's got me wondering, do you have a favourite sandwich topping that you like to eat
every day? What's going on? The new story today is a bit of a mystery involving a small town
in western Victoria and some minions that keep popping up out of nowhere.
Yes, you had me correctly.
Minions.
Those loveable yellow movie characters that wear overalls and goggles.
But these minions aren't just your ordinary minions.
These are strong sculptures or pieces of artwork that have been made from gas bottles, like
the ones we use for our barbecues and other pieces of metal, and then they've been perfectly
painted.
Now, the minions have been appearing for the last few months in the town of Warwick,
which has a population of only 70 people.
And still, despite there only being 70 people in the town, no one seems to be able to find
out who's doing it.
It first started last year when one of the locals named John got home from the town
Christmas party, and there was a minion sculpture out the front of his property.
And since then, the minions have been popping up all over the place, and at last count, there
were 24 minion characters in the town.
And it seems like whoever's creating them must live somewhere close by because each
minion includes something that's unique or special, about the person whose house it sits in
front of.
For example, one person who owns race horses received a horse riding minion, and a man
who makes wine got a minion with a wine bottle pouring wine into a glass on his head.
So, while there are a few ideas of who might be creating these fabulous sculptures, it's still
unknown.
But the local community doesn't mind too much, and there are many actually enjoying the
mystery, because it's bringing the community together and putting a big smile on everyone's
faces.
Morning kids, friends, we're going to keep you up to date on this minion mystery in Warwick.
But if you'd like to see some photos of the sculptures that have been popping up, well, we've
put a link to it in our show notes today, and perhaps you could ask your grown-up friends to
help you to find it there.
Let's have some fun! Okay, well, what a fun show we've already had today! Now it's time to
have some more fun and see how much you can remember.
Are you ready? Question number one.
What is the main ingredient that usually goes on the top and the bottom of a sandwich?
Bread! Bread! Bread's the answer! And you can have one or two slices, and you can even have
a triple decker sandwich with three or four slices of bread.
Have you ever done that before? And question number two today is, what are the yellow
cartoon characters that have been popping up in the small town of Warwick in western
Victoria? Ah, yes, good listening everybody.
It was minions.
That was an easy one, wasn't it? Well done everybody.
Did you get one or did you get two right today? Time to say goodbye! Already? I've had so
much fun with you today and I can't wait until we get to hang out again tomorrow, when
we're going to be learning about a large, very animal that likes to take naps under water.
Until then friends, I hope you have a fun and joyful day remembering to be silly and be
honest and be kind.
And let's catch up again tomorrow for Wild Wednesday.
