VIII. Rationale:

When it comes to tree planting, even tiny efforts can make a big difference in terms of leaving a
lasting environmental legacy. This is a project for environmental education. Dmmmsu members will
learn the value of tree planting, create a connection to nature, and learn how they may help save
the future by participating in this activity. As a result, like newly planted trees, this work will pay off
the investment for years to come. This practice instills in all kids the importance of friendship,
solidarity, and cooperation. Finally, this tree-planting effort can help to reduce disaster risk and
mitigate the consequences of climate change.
It offers volunteer opportunities and provides an educational experience along with the opportunity
to do something positive for the local community in an open, friendly environment. There are
numerous benefits that the project brings to the community: Builds community spirit and unity.

IX. Objectives:

At the end of the training, the participants will:

•1. To raise awareness on the dangers of deforestation.
•2. To promote the planting of trees as a lifestyle of the residents of Barangay Taberna, Bauang, La
Union
•3. To facilitate the conservation of natural resources for our future generations.
•4. To ensure the protection of biodiversity.
•5. To implement sustainable development.
•6. To protect and conserve critical environmental resources and invaluable natural and man- made
heritage which are essential for life-supporting livelihoods and welfare of the society.

X. Methodology:

The Tree Planting Activity aims to raise awareness to the society in the importance of planting and
saving trees, express our concern to the environment, and diminish the unfavourable effects of
climate change. For this activity to become successful, we tend to do a short seminar, in least 10
minutes, explaining the importance and on how to do planting trees, specially to the participants.
We will teach them the step-by-step proper way of planting trees these steps as follows; Step 1: Dig
the planting hole. Step 2: Massage/loosen/trim the roots and remove the nursery stake, Step 3: Place
the tree in the center of the hole, Step 4: Build a soil berm, Step 5: Stake the tree, Step 6: Tie the
tree, Step 7: Water the tree thoroughly. Step 8: Add Mulch.

The role of the facilitators and the coordinator is to guide the whole members of the team.
Discipline is highly emphasized throughout the project by giving out demerits according to their
deficiencies. Also the facilitators and our coordinator would not want to exercise inferiority complex.
And breaking that atmosphere , they implement conditioning by giving out merits to every job well
done.
Consistency, effective communication and discipline are they key ingredients for a more clean and
environment friendly community.

XIII. Expected Outputs/Deliverables:

The expected outcomes from this research will help to find new solutions to problems of trees in
urban areas. The Foundation would like to find out which species of trees provide beauty, shade,
shelter and food for wildlife. We would like to know which trees do best in certain situations and
which native species do well in an urban environment.

 When it is best to plant, prune, and water each desire species?

 Which plants are tolerant of drought and which help with water runoff?
We would like to know when to begin replacing trees to make a healthy mix of ages and species of
trees. We would like to find solutions to mistletoe, root problems, vandalism, poor growth, and
diseases that affect trees in an urban environment. One benefit of research is that it raises other
questions that need to be answered. By beginning with planting and monitoring the trees in our
urban forest and with the help of volunteers and hopefully an intern, the Foundation can begin to
answer some of the questions specific to our local environment.
