2.1. Course objectives
At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
- Basic understanding of composition, perspective to illustrate basic shapes and forms,
still life composition.
- Apply knowledge orunderstanding of basic forms (cylinder, cone, cube, sphere) in
drawing and painting inanimate objects.
- Getting acquainted with still life sketches.
- Methods of self-study, self-study, self-active in work.
- Use drawing/painting techniques in rendering inanimate objects using black and white,
and monochrome; and produce an art portfolio of still life drawings and paintings at the
end of the course.

3. Course description
Fundamentals of Drawing (I) is a compulsory subject for first-year students of graphic
design, which forms the foundation for all subjects related to the visual arts. It is divided
into 3 chapters including drawing and analyzing basic blocks, developing forms; drawing
and analyzing still life samples.
Throughout the course, besides drawing exercises in class, students have to practice
drawing still life sketches.

End of course - Final drawing exam (10 periods)
A/ Main activities:
- There are 2 exam topics, students will draw lots to choose topics to
illustrate.
- The drawing test is presented on an A2 sheet of paper in the form
of an infographic.
- Materials: Pencils / charcoal / colored pencils /drawing pen /
markers - all in black and white or monochrome.

14 + 15 - The exam layout includes: 1 still life picture (60% of the paper CLO5
size) and about 4-5 detailed drawings of related objects with information
in typography (40% of the paper size).
Request:
- Students are present at the exam room on time, bring enough art
tools.
- Students are allowed to use the materials for reference but not
copy other people's drawings.
- Do not exchange test content with others during the test.

7. Course requirements for lecturers
Classroom: practice room / studio room
Teaching facilities: easel, drawing board, microphone, projector, lights, chalk, camera,
basic forms, objects…

8. Students’ responsibilities
Students' duties are as follows:
- Must attend all classes in class. If a student does not score more than 20%, the exam will
be banned.
Students must dress according to the school's regulations. Don't work alone in class.
- Form a study group (each group has about 5-7 students), appoint a group leader. Know
how to work as a team and deploy individually
- Prepare lessons before going to class such as: doing exercises, reading documents in
advance according to the instructions in the teaching schedule and drawing learning
methods, studying drawings and sketches; Bring enough art supplies.
- Actively refer to professional documents and sketch regularly.
- Submit assignments and submit documents at the request of the lecturer
