2. Opposite angles of a parallelogram are congruent
3. Consecutive angles of a parallelogram are supplementary
4. The diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other
5. Either diagonal of a parallelogram forms two congruent triangles

 The opposite sides of a parallelogram are congruent and parallel

 The opposite angles of a parallelogram are congruent.
 Consecutive angles of a square/ rectangle are congruent and supplementary

MIDLINE THEOREM, THEOREM ON KITES AND TRAPEZOIDS

POINTS TO REMEMBER
 THE MIDLINE THEOREM
The segment whose endpoints are the midpoints of two sides of a triangle is parallel to and half as
long as the third side.
 THEOREM ON TRAPEZOID
The median of a trapezoid is parallel to the bases and the length of which is equal to half the sum of
the lengths of the bases.
If ABCD Is an isosceles trapezoid, then
a. (AD) ̅ ≌ (BC) ̅ because legs of an isosceles trapezoid are ≌
b. ∠A ≌ ∠B because base angles of an isosceles trapezoid ≌
c. ∠D ≌ ∠C because base angles of an isosceles trapezoid are ≌
d. (AC) ̅ ≌ (BD) ̅ because diagonals of an isosceles trapezoid are ≌
e. EF = ½ (AB+DC) because the median of a trapezoid is ½ the sum of the bases.
 THEOREM ON KITES
 If a quadrilateral is a kite, then its diagonals are perpendicular.
 If a quadrilateral is a kite, then exactly two pairs of congruent adjacent sides are ≌.
 Kite has exactly one diagonal bisects a pair of opposite angles.

 Kite has exactly one diagonal bisects a pair of opposite angles.

 In kite ABCD,
 AC ≌ CB
 AD ≌ CD
 m∠BAD ≌ m∠BCD
 m∠ABE ≌ m∠CBE
 m∠ADE ≌ m∠CDE

SOLVING PROBLEMS INVOLVING PARALLELOGRAM, TRAPEZOID AND KITE

POINTS TO REMEMBER
In solving Problems involving parallelogram, trapezoid and kite, it is important to remember and
use the properties to find the measures of angles, sides and other quantities involving
parallelogram, trapezoid and kite.
Follow the following steps:
1. Read and understand the problem/situation given.
2. Identify the property/theorem to be used base on the parallelogram given.
3. Formulate the equation.
4. Solve the equation.
5. Check your solution/s.

Illustrative example 1. Find the value of x and y for which CARE is a parallelogram.

1.1. Given: PA = 5x -4
PE = 4x
Solutions:
Diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other.
PE = PA
4x = 5x - 4
x=4

Illustrative example 2. The diagonals of an isosceles trapezoid are represented by 4x-47 and 2x
+ 31. What is the value of x?
Solution: The diagonal of an isosceles trapezoid are congruent. Therefore,
4x – 47 = 2x + 31
x = 39

Illustrative example 2: Given RSTV is a kite. Find the indicated measure.

a. If RS = 8 and ST = 12 then RV = _______. VT = _______ and the perimeter = _______.

Answer: 8; 12; 40
