Description USN
A 3 bus system is given in fig below and the ratings of the various
components are listed. Develop the reactance diagram by considering the
Generator 1 as the base machine.

MVA kV Reactance
Machine Winding
Rating Rating in pu
Generator-1 50 13.8 0.15 -

Generator-2 40 13.2 0.2 -

Generator-3 30 11 0.25 -
Transformer-1 45 11/110 0.1 Y/Y

Transformer-2 25 12.5/115 0.15 Y/Y

Transformer-3 40 12.5/115 0.1 Y/Y

For the system shown in fig, determine the Generator voltage. Assume a
base of 100MVA, 210 kV in the Transmission line.

A synchronous Generator and a motor are rated 30 MVA, 13.2 kV and both
have sub transient reactance of 20%.The line connecting them has a
reactance of 10% on the basis of the machine ratings. The motor is
drawing 20,000Kw at 0.8 lagging and terminal voltage of 12.8 kV when a
3
symmetrical 3φ fault occurs at the midpoint of the transmission line. Find
the sub transient current in the generator, motor and the fault by finding
the internal voltages of the machines. If the fault occurred at the motor
terminals, what will be the fault currents?

For a radial network shown in fig below, a 3φ fault occurs at point ‘F’.
Determine the fault current and the line voltage at 11 kV bus under fault
conditions.

In the fig. shown, Buses 1 &2 are Generator buses and 3&4 are load
busses. The system data is given below. The line reactances on a base of
5
100MVA, 110Kv are indicated in the fig.
Machines MVA Rating Kv Rating Reactance in pu

Generators 1&2 100 11 10%

Transformers 1&2 100 11/110 5%

Obtain the short circuit current for a 3φ solid fault occurs at bus 4.

A 25 MVA, 11Kv Generator with Xd” =20% is connected through a

Transformer to a bus that supplies 3 identical motors, each with X d” =25%
and Xd’ =30% on a base of 5 MVA, 6.6kV. The rating of step up transformer
is 25 MVA, 11/66Kv, X= 10% and that of step down Transformer is
25 MVA, 66 /6.6Kv, X= 10%. There is a 3φ fault occurs at point ‘F’.

(iii) The momentary current in Breaker ‘B’ (iv) The current to be
interrupted by the Breaker.

Va0= (125+j45); Va1= (535+j75); Va2= (425+j30);
7
Ia0= (20+j10); Ia1= (30+j15); Ia2= (25+j5);

midpoint of the transmission line. Find the fault current for (i) L-G fault (ii)
L-L fault (iii) L-L-G fault.
