Wooden Products

1. Particle Board :
 Particle board, also known as chipboard, is an engineering wood product manufactured
from wood chips or Jute-stick chips and a synthetic resin or other suitable binder, which is
pressed and extruded. Particle board is often confused with orientedstrand board (also
known as flakeboard, waferboard, or chipboard), a different type of fiberboard that uses
machined wood flakes and offers more strength.
 The thickness of praticle board varies from 12 to 18 mm and size 9’ x 6’.
 The surfaces of praticle board is usually smoother then that of plywood.
 Praticle boards are created using scraps of other lumber products, which makes it
environment – friendly.
 Praticle boards are very light in weight. Furniture made from these boards is relatively easy
to transport and move around.
 Praticle board is definitely more effective then plywood.

2. MDF Board:

 Medium-density fibreboard (MDF) is an engineering wood product made by breaking down

hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibres, often in a defibrator, combining it
with wax and a resin binder, and forming it into panels by applying high temperature and
Pressure.

 Medium-density fibreboard (MDF) is generally more dense than Plywood.

 It is made up of separated fibres, but can be used as a Building Material similar in application

to plywood.
 It is stronger, and more dense, than Praticle board.

 Sizes of Medium-density fibreboard (MDF) is 2440 x 1220 x 2/2.5 mm.

 Advantage of Medium-density fibreboard (MDF) are:
1. Medium-density fibreboard (MDF) is solid wood which is durable and
will last you in long term.
2. Solid wood simply looks beautiful.
3. An interior rich of solid wood can increase the value of your properties.
4. Furniture from natural wood can come in various shapes and styles

3. Cross Laminated Timber:

 Cross-laminated timber (CLT) (a sub-category of engineering wood is a wood

panel product made from gluing together layers of solid-sawn lumber, i.e., lumber cut
from a single log.
 Each layer of boards is usually oriented perpendicular to adjacent layers and glued
on the wide faces of each board, usually in a symmetric way so that the outer layers
have the same orientation.
 An odd number of layers is most common, but there are configurations with even
numbers as well (which are then arranged to give a symmetric configuration).
 Regular timber is an anisotropic material, meaning that the physical properties
change depending on the direction at which the force is applied.
 By gluing layers of wood at right angles, the panel is able to achieve better structural
rigidity in both directions.
 It is similar to plywood but with distinctively thicker laminations (or lamellae).

 Width of cross laminated timber is upto 18’ and sized is 2-10’ x upto 98’.

4. Fiber Board:

 Fiber board is made from felting of wood and vegetable matter and moulded
into sheets.
 Fiber board are of three type: Soft, Medium and hard.
 Soft fiber board is used for walls and ceilings.
 Medium fiber board is used for panelling, and partition wall.
 Hard fiber board is used in walls, doors, bus bodies, etc.
 Size of Fiber board is 4’ x 8’ and width is 6”.
 Properties of Fiber board are:
1. Eco-Friendly
2. Breathable
3. Has low thermal Conductivity
4. Wood Fiber is fire Safe
5. Wood Fiber Insulation offers a tight thermal envelope and improved
indoor air quality.
6. Provides sun protection on lightweight buildings.

5. Veneer Board:

 Veneering is the process of manufacture of wood based product in which thin sheets
of woods are produced which is known as veneers.
 The thickness of veners varies from 0.4 to 0.6 mm but not more then 1 mm.
 Most perferable wood for veneer is Walnut.
 Veneers are used to lessen the cost of a project without sacrifing the overall
appearance.
 A veneer is a thin piece of hardwood that is placed over a piece manufactured wood.
 Veneers are frequently used on cabinets, furniture and floors.
 Advantages of veneers sheets are:
1. Aesthetics like natural wood with low cost
2. Flexibility in designs
3. Increase Strength and Durability
4. Eco-friendly
5. Better way of wood utilization
6. Non-toxic
